Saying he was bothered by his conscience, a man who last month submitted himself to the governments
antidrug campaign presented himself again to the police, this time to admit that he stabbed a nurse dead in
her room in Quezon City last week.
Jeffrey Guarin, 22, went to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) headquarters on Wednesday, a day
after he surrendered to barangay officials for killing September Ann Paz, before dawn on Aug. 20.
Paz, a 24-year-old nurse at St. Lukes Medical Center and a native of Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, was found
inside her room with 19 stab wounds hours after her neighbors heard her moaning in pain.

Guarin said he was just drunk when he attacked the victim, although he would later test positive for drug
use. He claimed that he only intended to rob Paz because he needed money to buy more liquor.
He lived beside the boarding house where the victim stayed on Doa Juana Rodriguez Street, Barangay
Kristong Hari.
Guarin said he managed to get into the victims room while she was asleep and was going through her
bags when Paz woke up and screamed.

MANILA, Philippines The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Monday, August 22, said the
police violated the human rights of the father and son who died while inside the Pasay City Jail.
Gilbert Boiser, CHR director for the National Capital Region, said the police clearly committed human
rights violations when they killed JP Bertes and his father Renato Bertes on July 7 for their alleged links
to drugs.
More specifically, he said the Bertes father and son were victims of "torture."
"The concerned officers committed a violation of the right against arbitrary deprivation of life and torture
based on our forensic autopsy report," Boiser told the Senate committee on justice and human rights.
The two were arrested in their Pasay City home on July 6 for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The
following day, they were found dead inside the Pasay City Jail, with police accusing them of trying to
grab guns.
Harra Kazuo, the partner of the younger Bertes, admitted before the Senate that he was indeed a drug
pusher. He, however, was supposed to already surrender before cops killed him.
Kazuo maintained the police did not present a search warrant when they went to the Bertes home to look
for drugs

Drugs, abuse eyed in death of hotel

manager
By: Kristine Felisse Mangunay / @inquirerdotnet
Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:36 AM March 02, 2016
FIVE days after her death, the police have yet to determine what killed a 26-year-old hotel assistant
manager who was rushed unconscious to the hospital on Friday morning after locking herself up in a
room with her live-in partner and three other men.
Senior Supt. Ariel Andrade, Paraaque police chief, said on Tuesday that they were still waiting for the
autopsy report on Edgel Jhoy Durolfo, VIP Premium Services assistant manager at Solaire Resort and
Casino. She died at San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City shortly after she was brought there around 4
a.m. on Friday by her partner, Rodney Ynchausti, and three other men identified only as Pau Egoc,
Molo Hwang and Beah Lim.
Based on the initial investigation conducted by the police, the victim had bruises and contusions, leading
to speculation that she may have been beaten up. Her parents also reported to investigators that Ynchausti
had told them that their daughter had used drugs before she died.

So far, we are still investigating. We cant say yet what the cause of her death was; if it was hematoma or
if there was a drug overdose since she was unconscious [when she was taken to the hospital], Andrade
said.
