Form factor (c) Ripple factor (d) Peak inverse voltage (PIV) of diode D1.

Vmsin(t)

Q2. The rectifier shown in figure below has a purely resistive load of R=15 and, VS=300 sin 314 t and
unity transformer ratio. Determine (a) The efficiency, (b) Form factor, (c) Ripple factor, (d) The peak
inverse voltage, (PIV) of each diode and, (e) Input power factor.

Vmsin(314t)

Q3. What will be the load voltage and current waveform when a single phase half wave uncontrolled
rectifier supplies a purely inductive load? Explain your answer with waveforms.
Q4. Single phase diode bridge rectifier connected to 11 kV, 50 Hz, source inductance Xs = 5mH supply to
feed 200 A pure DC load, find: (i) Average DC output voltage, (ii) Power factor (iii) Determine the THD of
the utility line current.
Q-5 In the simplified three-phase rectifier circuit of figure shown below, obtain the average and the rms
values of current through each diode as a ratio of the dc-side current Id.

Q6- In the three-phase rectifier circuit of figure shown below, assume the ac-side inductance LS, to be
negligible. Instead, an inductance Ld, is placed between the rectifier output and the filter capacitor.

Derive the minimum value of Ld in terms of VLL, , and Id, that will result in a continuous id, assuming that
the ripple in vd, is negligible.

Q-7 In the three-phase, four-wire system of figure shown below, all single-phase rectifier loads are
identical and the conditions are such that each line current flows for less than 60 degree during each
half-cycle of the line-to-neutral voltage. Show that in terms of their rms values In= Iline.

Q8. A 220V, 20A 1500 RPM separately excited dc motor has an armature resistance of 0.75 and
inductance of 50 mH. The motor is supplied from a single phase fully controlled converter operating
from a 230 V, 50 Hz, single phase supply with a firing angle of = 30. At what speed the motor will
supply full load torque. Will the conduction be continuous under this condition?
Q9. In the single-phase half-wave rectifier shown below, assume that the load current io= Ia is constant
(load inductance L is very large).
(a) Sketch the load voltage waveform v0 for = 90 and find its average value Vdc.
(b) For R = 10 find the average and rms values of the diode current iD for = 45.

Q10. A single-phase fully-controlled bridge converter supplies power to a highly-inductive load with
resistance R = 10 from a 240 V rms 50 Hz AC source, as shown below.
(a) Find the firing angle so that the average power supplied to the load is Pav = 1200 W.
(b) For = /6 find the input power factor of the rectifier.
