INTRODUCTION
Forest Information Update (FIU) is a free monthly email newsletter sent to people
interested in the inventory and monitoring of natural resources and reaches about
22,000 natural resource specialists and other recipients worldwide. FIU is produced by
Trade and Media Services Ltd (www.southem.com) and is supported by organizations,

11 No 5 links re mangroves: Elaine George writes: Thank you for posting the link for
the mangroves. For those like myself who are not familiar with mangroves I found the
following link:

which provides basic information about mangroves. Since mangroves filter water is it
likely that they can handle the extreme phytologic stress from the oil which is washing
into the coastal habitats in Louisiana and other areas? Is the mangrove a tree which is
easily grown, so that some of the damage from the BP oil rig disaster can be
remediated by replanting?

. RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP INVASIVE SHRUBS - BI-Mestre: Shrub invasion:
effects on carbon, nitrogen and water cycling (FCT). A research scholarship (BI-Mestre)
