MARKET PREVIEW
US: U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as
gains in the Industrials, Telecoms and Oil & Gas sectors led
shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Technology and
Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
Asia: Most Asian stock markets fell on Thursday as upbeat
economic data strengthened the prospect for higher U.S.
interest rates, while the dollar's bull run continued as U.S. bond
yields hovered near multi-year highs
India: Extending gains for the second straight session, the
benchmark equity indices settled the day higher ahead of the
F&O expiry of November series due today. Positive cues from
the Asian markets which surged to one-week highs after the
Wall Street saw a second consecutive record-breaking session
overnight, contributed to gains. Market is expected to open on
negative note and likely to witness volatile trading session
ahead of Derivative Expiry.
Economy: New orders for U.S. manufactured capital goods
rebounded in October, driven by rising demand for machinery
and a range of other equipment, the latest indication of an
acceleration in economic growth early in the fourth quarter.
The Commerce Department said non-defense capital goods
orders excluding aircraft, a closely watched proxy for business
spending plans, rose 0.4 % after declining 1.4 % in September
The Federal Reserve made clear that a majority of Federal
Open Market Committee members expect to raise rates in
December barring external shocks
Britain ramped up its borrowing forecasts by much more than
expected and said the vote to leave the European Union would
weigh heavily on the economy, giving the government little
room to ease the Brexit pressure on households and
companies. The Office for Budget Responsibility, Britain's
independent budget forecasters, said GDP would grow by 1.4 %
in 2017, down from an estimate of 2.2 % made in March,
before voters decided to leave the EU.
Commodities: - Oil prices were little changed on Thursday as
uncertainty ahead of a planned OPEC-led crude production cut
and thin liquidity due to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday kept
traders from making big new bets on markets.
Gold held on to losses early Thursday from the previous
session, when it fell 2 %, as the dollar remained strong on
expectations of a U.S. Federal Reserve rate hike in December.
Currency: The dollar firmed in Asian trading on Thursday after
news of a pickup in U.S. economic growth early in the fourth
quarter increased the chances of the Federal Reserve
tightening monetary policy.
