Instruction/Presentation (60 mins):

1. Teacher begins the class lesson by leading the Goods and
Services song with students to get them excited about
todays Shopping Day. (The teacher will have the classroom
set up with their storefronts prior to the shopping day.)
2. The teacher will have the students take out their
wallet/purse, and make sure each student has all the items
inside. (Money, ID card, grocery list)
3. The teacher will have the students that have the same
service sit next to each other.
4. The teacher will assign the students the letter A or B. (Group
A is first shoppers then workers, and Group B is first workers,
then shoppers.) ESOL: For ESOL students the teacher will
repeat the directions again individually to make sure they
fully understand.
5. Group A will take out their shopping list, and money they
made previously in the week. The shoppers will go to their
businesses to purchase their goods off the pre-made
shopping list.
6. Group B will be behind their storefront and will provide the
services to the shoppers. They will exchange the items for
the shoppers money. Remind students to use what they have
learned throughout the week about goods and services to
help them with the activity. ESOL: The simulation will be an
accommodation for ESOL students, if extra help is needed
during the activity the teacher will stand near them and help
them with the process.
7. After Group A goes around to the different services and
completes the shopping list the students in Group B will
switch and the activity continues again.
8. Once both groups have rotated the teacher will have the
students put all the items back into their wallet/purse, and
make sure they go home with the students at the end of the
day.
9. The teacher will review some of the questions asked during
the week:
a. How much is a quarter worth?
b. What is an example of a good?- Which goods did you
provide today?
c. What is an example of a service? Which service did
you perform today?
d. Why is money important?
10. The teacher will assess the students knowledge with a
Kahoot!
