3. System Description
The galley general supply is controlled from the cockpit overhead panel by means of the ELEC/GALLEY
pushbutton switch (in normal operation the pushbutton switch is pushed in).
This pushbutton switch is used:
to shed all the galley loads and,
to reset the galley loads automatically shed after an overload detection by the Electrical Contactor
Management Unit (ECMU).

The galley automatic shedding logic is performed by the ELMU and the ECMU. (see Ref. 24-29-00 and
24-54-00)

In normal operation, the ELMU performs the shedding function, the ECMU is in standby mode, but if the
ELMU is not operative (failure or OFF mode), the ECMU galley shedding function is activated.
This function consists in controlling the galley RCCBs (Remote Control Circuit Breakers) which serve to
shed the galleys according to the electrical sources available and the generator overloads if any.

ELMU principle
The Electrical Load Management System (ELMS) sheds or restores electrical loads to different systems
in accordance with a level of priority given to each load managed. To do this, it uses a computer, the
Electrical Load Management Unit (ELMU), which monitors the power output from each of the AC power
sources (IDGs, APU generator, ground power units). When there is an overload, the ELMU sheds
electrical loads in a sequence of priority, and when the available capacity of the generator is sufficient
again, it restores the loads, again in a sequence of priority.
Thus, the ELMU ensures optimum utilization of the power available on the power sources.

ECMU principle (When the ELMU is not available)


The automatic shedding occurs according to the aircraft configuration (normal, failed IDG, with the APU,
etc.).
The ECMU's manage the validity of the logics controlling the opening or closure of each Remote Control
Circuit Breaker (RCCB) supplying the galleys:
the ECMU 1 and the ECMU 2 via the relay 2XA1 manage RCCB 1, 2, 3, 7 and via the relay 6XA1
manage RCCB 9, 11 and 12.
the ECMU 2 and the ECMU 1 via the relay 2XA2 manage RCCB 4, 5, 6, 8 and via the relay 6XA2
manage RCCB 10.
In normal configuration all the galleys are supplied.
ECMU Programmable circuit logic
Each RCCB (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) and relays (2XA1, 2XA2, 6XA1, 6XA2) have an
associated control logic depending on the following inputs:
ELEC/GALLEY pushbutton switch,
GLC (1, 2, 3, 4), APU GLC, EPC A, EPC B,
GCU (1, 2, 3, 4) and GAPCU overload,
EXT PWR A and EXT PWR B overload.

Each logic function is programmed into a specific logic circuit. Each galley RCCB and the
relays (2XA1, 2XA2, 6XA1, 6XA2) control the logic.

If the Electronic Load Management Unit (ELMU) is operational, it will shed the loads only if there is an
overload on the power supply source.
If the ELMU sheds galley's load, the messages GALLEY PARTIALLY SHED or GALLEY SHED are
displayed on the ELEC AC page of the system display (SD).

The COMMERCIAL OFF indication is shown on the SD, on the ELEC AC page.
