II. LEARNING OUTCOME (Objective):
Students will be able to create their own story with a picture and matching story.
Students will be able to use high frequency words, sight words, and family words in their writing.
Students will be able to accurately print upper and lower case letters in their writing.

III. CURRICULUM CONNECTION (How This Lesson Fits Into Unit Plan):
This lesson fits into the introductory unit of writers workshop.
IV. INSTRUCTION
A ENGAGEMENT (Motivational Activity):
Writers, we have been learning about what writers do, what materials they need, and where they get
their ideas from. We have read books that have patterns. These pattern books gave me an idea for
writing.
-Show student examples of pattern books.

B INSTRUCTIONAL SEQUENCE (Teaching Methodology With Student Activities):


1.Gather ideas for a list
T: The other day I was looking around our classroom and I made a list of what I was able to see. We
are going to make a list together.
T: Teacher will give the students the opportunity to look around the room silently
and think of what they see.
S: Students will look around the room. Teacher will give the students to turn to
their partner and pair share what they see.
2. Create a list
T: Now that we have some ideas and have shared our ideas we will make a list together.
T: Teacher will create a list
S: Students will share some objects in the classroom that they see.

3. Sentence frame
T: We will use a pattern for writing.
T: Model the sentence frame, I see ________. I see________. I see___________.
S: Students will recognize the pattern that they will use in their writing today.
4. Writing
T: For todays writing you can write about something you see. Maybe it is something you see in the
classroom. Maybe its outside or maybe is something you see in your home.
S: students will begin their writing.

C APPLICATION ACTIVITY (Practice and/or Reflection):


Students will work independently on their writing. They will write their entry in their writers
workshop journals and use the class and they own folder as a resource to help them write.

V. ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES (Methods For Obtaining Evidence Of Learning):
During writers workshop, I will pull a small group and conference with them to check for
understanding. I will check that students are able to accurately write upper and lower case letters. As
well as be able to use familiar sight words and high frequency words in their writing.

VI. ACCOMMODATIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL LEARNERS (CONTENT, INSTRUCTION,


PRACTICE):

Accommodations for the class include: Opportunities to discuss material with other
students to increase comprehension, graphic organizers to display information and to organize student
ideas, visuals (photos, charts) to increase comprehension, teacher demonstrations/role-plays of
procedures and concepts, and sentence frames.
