0.0 Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is

To make sure safe operation of Printing Machine

To describe the authorities and responsibilities of persons working on the


To make sure each and every steps is followed required for good

1.0 Scope
This Procedure is applicable to Crabtree Conventional and UV printing Process.

2.0 Responsibilities

Plant Manager is responsible for implementation of the Procedure.

Printing Supervisor is responsible for true execution of the procedure

Printing Clerk is responsible to enter the Production data

Machine Mechanics are responsible to carry out the assigned tasks


QC department is responsible to closely observe the standardized operating

procedure and to report for negligence

3.0 Terms
SOP: Standard Operating Procedure.


Standard Operating Procedure

Safety Checks:

Check availability of necessary PPEs,

Machine is adequately guarded to prevent access to dangerous parts
Stop machine movement before a person enters a danger zone.
Emergency stop buttons should work properly.
Restrict unauthorized Entries in the Machine premises.

Pre-Checks before Printing Process:

a) Check that coatings, print plates and inks are available
b) Organize the line crew so that assigned tasks are carried out efficiently

c) On completion of a job, collect the remaining ink onto one pellet, for
weighing and record the data in the form Material issue Voucher

Production Guide:

At the start of the Shift the assigned line may be in one of four

situations as follows:
4.1.1 Under Maintenance: The Mechanic Should assist or Continue with
the maintenance Task
4.1.2 Being Changed Over: Continue with the Change, and present
samples to Quality Control on completion, this should be done
before bulk or regular production
4.1.3 About to start: If quality department has approved the produced
sample then proceed accordingly. In case it is rejected correct it
and confirm it again from the QC dept. Refer daily production

4.1.4 Running: Carry out quality conformity checks, including color
conformance with the approved standard, general printing quality,
and the temperatures setting for the Crabtree conventional
printing LTG oven. Refer to Daily Print Monitoring Sheet SCFM-PMS

When Changing From One design to another:

Clean the Ink roll and Printing Plate
Remove the print plate and if it is believed to be in good


Condition, Place it in the departmental rack.

Take the new print plates from the departmental rack, ensuring
that the design code and description on the production program


are identical to those on the print plate.

The Pallet tag must be properly logged reference TCT tag
For correct ink code follow the information provided in the


daily production plan file

For Lacquer and Coating the information are also available in


the daily production program

The procedure for lacquering and coating is similar to the
printing but the only difference is that no printing plate is used
in the process; also the printing stations are not used for the


A material applied to the rollers has a very important property
.i.e. Viscosity. The Viscosity must be measured before start of

each job, and whenever a new drum of material is opened. The

measurement is made by using a viscosity cup. Take the
readings and note them on the Daily Print Monitoring

Such materials to be mixed at least for 1 hour and then circulate
through the machine for 5 Minutes before a measurement is

5.10 The Acceptable ranges for such materials are as follows:
a) Lacquers and Varnishes : 35 to 95 seconds
b) Coatings
: 110 to 165 seconds
5.11 If the materials are more viscous than the set parameters they
can be used

by adding thinner, However materials with less

viscosity is a matter of concern such material can result

reduction in scratch resistance. Quality and Management must
be informed before its use
5.12 The LTG discharge end operator after completion of a job load
the sheets on pallets and attached TCT Tag, he is also
responsible fill the Production Log LTG form # SC-FM-PLTG
5.13 The total production is noted down on Daily Production
Report form # SC-FM-TPP
5.14 The Printing Clerk is responsible to enter the daily Production
data in QAD system and to preserve the original Mill Tag
5.15 The scrap generated is noted down in Daily Production report as
well as in a separate form # SC-FM-DSMS
