in Engineering (Civil Chapter)


Constitution
Article I Purposes
The purposes of the group are:
1. To introduce students to the concept of leadership as an integral part of
engineering practice;
2. To develop students' leadership skills and potential through experience and
opportunities to take on projects and workshops, as well as outreach to
engineering leadership educators and engineering-intensive enterprises;
3. To foster good team spirit amongst members;
4. To welcome all Civil and Mineral Engineering students who are interested in
participating.

Article II Membership
All University of Toronto Civil and Mineral Engineering students are eligible for
membership. Only those members of the University who choose to join and
participate will be deemed as members of the ILead Civ Chapter.

Article III Membership Tiers


The team is broken into two tiers of membership which are described below:

Tier I Team Executives


The Executives are a group of members in charge of the overall leadership of the
group. They are selected through an application process which is reviewed by the
current Executives, and which may include individual interviews. This process takes
place in the month of April of every year. The Executives and their associated
responsibilities are as follows:
Chair
The Chair or Co-Chair is responsible for ensuring that all events align with the clubs
vision and the goals set out by the Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering.
The Chair has signing authority on all monetary documents. The Chair is responsible

for the Club e-mail and sending out emails regarding executive meetings, and also
for organizing meetings with the Civil Engineering Department representative(s),
other student groups in Civil Engineering and representatives from the Institute for
Leadership Education in Engineering to improve collaborations and ideas.

Planning Committee
The Planning Committee consists of two to three members who are responsible for
contributing new ideas and drawing a general roadmap for the club's activities
throughout the year, planning, organizing and running projects and events, and also
reaching out to other groups, individuals and organizations from within the
University and also the industry to collaborate on leadership development projects.
Treasurer
This Executive is responsible for securing funding for the club and overseeing the
clubs finances throughout the year. This includes accurate record keeping and
authority over any spending decisions.
Communications Coordinator
This director is responsible for disseminating the message of the Club to students.
They are responsible for notices sent to members via our mailing list and will ensure
that the material on the social networking sites is up to date, and will also prepare
posters or other kinds of advertisement for every event.
Secretary
This member is responsible for attending all of the meetings and taking detailed
meeting minutes, which will then be shared with other members of the Executive
team, and also archived for future reference.

Tier II General Team Members


All team members who are not Executives are considered to be general team
members. These members are expected to assist the directors as well as ensure
that club operations run smoothly and objectives are met.

Additional Information
Should any position in Tier I become vacant it is the responsibility of the Chair to
assume this role until the position is filled. This appointment is temporary and the
position shall be filled in by an application process which follows the same
procedures as Article VII.

Article IV Meetings

All Tier I members must meet once a week


Team wide meetings to be scheduled at the discretion of Tier I members

Each Tier I member is in charge of arranging meetings for the specialty they
lead as often as is required

Article V Finances

Only the Club Chair or Co-Chairs, the Treasurer and the chair of the Planning
Committee have bank account signing privileges;
The Treasurer is ultimately responsible for all club finances;
The Treasurer must be able to provide fiscal records on demand.

Article VI Amendments
Amendments to this Constitution may be made at any meeting of the club with ALL
Tier I members present. Any member of the team may propose a change to the
constitution. A change in the constitution will be voted upon. Each member present
at the meeting is allotted one vote. A vote is considered successful if a majority of
the votes are cast in favour of the proposed change. In the case of a tie, the Chair
decides whether or not the change will go through.

Article VII Application Process


The final meeting of an academic year shall be devoted to electing new executives
for the following year. It is the responsibility of the Chair to direct this process.
Any U of T Civil or Mineral Engineering student can apply for an executive position.
The applications will then be reviewed by the current Executives. A vote will then
take place for every position; ALL members of the team present at the elections
must vote in the elections and each member is allotted one vote. A candidate will
be considered successful for a given position if they receive a majority of the votes.
In the case of a tie, the top candidates will be invited for individual interviews, after
which the current Executive holding that position will decide who the successful
candidate is.
