Notes for Jazzified Bach Invention #1 for Trio with Rhythm Section
Lead Part: This part carries most of the melody throughout the piece, but when it does
not be careful not to overpower the part that is currently doing the melody. Careful
attention and listening will produce the best results. Careful matching of articulation,
phrasing, vibrato, tempo and volume with the other saxophones is necessary for a
satisfactory performance.
Middle Part: This part supports the melody throughout the piece, but when playing the
melody be sure to bring that part out. Careful attention and listening will produce the
best results. Careful matching of articulation, phrasing, vibrato, tempo and volume with
the other saxophones is necessary for a satisfactory performance.
Bottom Part: This part mostly supports the other two instruments of the Trio throughout
the piece. When playing the melody be sure to bring that part out. Careful attention and
listening will produce the best results. Careful matching of articulation, phrasing, vibrato,
tempo and volume with the other saxophones is necessary for a satisfactory
performance.
Piano: This part may be played on a variety of chord instruments, such as; vibraphone,
electric piano, organ, guitar etc. The chord voicing are only suggestions and may be
changed to suit the performance. The rhythms may also be changed but it is suggested
to keep the rhythms simple so as not interfere with the trio melody parts. Pay close
attention to volume markings to follow the volume of the trio parts.
Bass: The part may also be played on a variety of basses, such as; acoustic, electric,
etc. The walking bass line is only a suggestion and may be changed to suit the
performance. It is suggested to keep the rhythms simple so as not interfere with the trio
melody parts. Pay close attention to volume markings to follow the volume of the trio
parts.
Drum Kit: Keep tempo consistent. Be careful not to fill too much so as not interfere with
the trio melody parts. It is suggested to keep the rhythms simple so as not interfere with
the trio melody parts. Pay close attention to volume markings to follow the volume of the
trio parts.
