Student Work Log/Narrative
Week of August 29,2016
Responsibilities: This week I learned what my roles and responsibilities would be as a CCC with
Teach For America. I also started my trainings.
Comments/Reflections: So far I am enjoying my internship, I am excited to see what my
internship has in store for me, what I will learn and how I will be able to contribute to Teach For
America.
Week of: September 5, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I am completing my trainings. I also met with my boss and the other
Howard intern to go over our team dynamic a and expectations throughout the internship. I will
be posting on campus marketing throughout the week to help spread awareness about Teach For
America on campus.
Comments/Reflections: My team dynamic is relaxed but still challenging. Josh gives us a task
and expects us to complete it with our own flair, this is something that I personally enjoy.
Posting marketing on campus also allows for me to interact with more students who are curious
about joining the corps with Teach For America.
Week of: September 12, 2016_
Responsibilities: This week was one of my first assignments. My first assignment required me to
reach out to at least 20 people that I know that would be interested in learning more about Teach
For America, as well as organizations and classes on campus that I would like to present to. I
also started brainstorming on campus events that I would like to coordinate.
Comments/Reflections: This week was exciting because I began to plan what my on campus
impact would be as a CCC. I have also had the opportunity to meet former corps members and
learn about their experiences with Teach For America and the impact that they were able to have.
Week of: September 19, 2016
Responsibilities: I spent time sourcing my new recruits and learning more about what works and
doesnt work in terms of marketing for certain campuses. I was also able to practice scenarios
that could occur while talking with interested students at various events. I am helping to plan an

on campus tabling event for First Friday I think this will be a great event that will create a lot
of on campus exposure.

Comments/Reflections: This week has been a little more challenging than previous weeks
because I am starting to use more of the Teach For America tools and Toolkits. This requires
some getting used to but all in all I am still very excited to create an impact.
Week of: September 26, 2016
Responsibilities: In addition to my normal responsibilities of recruiting, sourcing recruits and
meeting in the office I had the opportunity to help my supervisor with a career fair. I was able to
help decorate the table and assist Josh with the interested students that came to our table. This by
far has been one of my favorite experiences because it allowed me to interact with other students
and share the things I have learned. This opportunity also allowed me to hone skills that I already
have such as public speaking.
Comments/Reflections: Although I enjoyed participating at the career fair this past week it was a
little trying because I have been sick with an upper respiratory infection and I had to work
through that. I am glad to have the opportunity to meet students that are potential qualified
candidates for Teach For America.
Week of: October 3, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I hosted an event that partnered with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated, Alpha Chapter to raise awareness about the school to prison pipeline and help gain
recruits and raise awareness about other ways we can combat educational injustice. I spent most
of my time this week putting the finishing touches on the event and sourcing all of the interested
students into our system so that we can reach out to them at a later date.
Comments/Reflections: The event this week went way better than expected. I was very excited to
see how receptive the attendees were to the topic and task at hand. The number of potential
recruits gained from this event set our numbers way ahead of our target for the next few weeks.
Although the event was a success, I was not able to have my tabling event in Blackburn due to
new rules, this was both frustrating and disappointing.
Week of: October 10, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I helped the other Howard intern plan a dinner that would allow
interested candidates from various schools, students who have accepted their offers from Teach
For America and former corps members to meet and share their experiences.
I spent time sourcing my new recruits and learning more about what works and doesnt work in
terms of marketing for certain campuses. I was also able to practice scenarios that could occur

while talking with interested students at various events. I am helping to plan an on campus
tabling event for First Friday I think this will be a great event that will create a lot of on
campus exposure.
Comments/Reflections: The dinner was a big success! Friends of mine who were able to attend
the dinner left the event feeling even more excited about the idea of working with Teach For
America. With homecoming quickly approaching it is becoming increasingly challenging to keep
people engaged with marketing and recruiting efforts. This is also becoming increasingly
challenging because the other intern just recently resigned.
Week of: October 17, 2016
Responsibilities: This week there were no major events on the calendar, as usual I met with Josh
twice this week and sourced my new recruits. On Wednesday I had the opportunity to meet with
Ms. Crystal who is a former Howard recruiter, and she is now a lead recruiter for Teach For
America. We spoke about my role in Teach For America and how I can make an impact on
young children through joining the corps.
Comments/Reflections: This week was a great change of pace from the previous week and has
left me recharged and excited to move forward in my internship.
Week of: October 24, 2016
Responsibilities: This week there were no major events on the calendar, as usual I met with Josh
twice this week and sourced my new recruits.
Comments/Reflections: This week was a little slower than usual because of homecoming but I
am sure the following weeks will pick up. This down time also gives me an opportunity to plan
my upcoming event.
Week of: October 31, 2016
Responsibilities: In addition to my weekly meetings, I had the opportunity to speak to Resident
Assistants about Teach For America and possibly allowing me to come speak with their
residents.
Comments/Reflections: The event with the Resident Assistants was very well received. Although
I enjoyed this speaking engagement it was a little challenging for me because my supervisor was
not able to be in attendance and this was my first time talking to such a large group by myself.
Week of: November 7, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I was in charge of coordinating a happy hour event for students that
have been accepted to Teach For America from Howard and former corps members.

Comments/Reflections: The event was a success! The accepted students came and any questions
they had were answered and all of their doubts seemed to be wiped away. I am happy that the
setting was small and intimate because it allowed the Teach For America alum to really speak to
their experiences and help the students that had been accepted.
Week of: November 14, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I coordinated and helped set up a tabling event in Blackburn. This
was great because it allowed us to reach a larger group of people.
Comments/Reflections: I was very excited about this week because I was finally able to have the
tabling event.
Week of: November 21, 2016
Responsibilities: This week I am wrapping up the first semester of my internship. I am updating
the campus marketing and reaching out to as many people as I can for on campus recruiting
before we leave for break.
Comments/Reflections: This week has been a little more challenging than previous weeks
because I have to balance finals and projects with my internship. I am looking forward to using
Thanksgiving break as a time to catch up in both of these areas.
