Lesson plan

Topic : Solar System.

Time allocation : 5 - 6 minutes.
Objective :
1. Students will be able to identify the Sun, all eight planets, and will be able to name
the planets.
2. Students will be able to list the order of the planets by starting from the Sun.
Teaching Procedure :
Warm up
Teacher asks the students if they look up to the sky, what did they see? Have they
ever wondered that those stars look like? Then, we talk about the Solar System, the Sun
and the eight planets.
Presentation
Teacher explains that the planets orbit around the Sun, which is located in the
center of the Solar System. Tell the students that how many planets there are and the
names of each one. The Solar System consists of the eight planets that orbit around the
Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Practice and Product
Teacher does the activity with students by asking the questions.
Sample questions.
- Which planet is the largest in the Solar System?
- Which planet is the closest to the Sun?
- Which planet has the living things?
Conclusion / Wrap up
To sum up, teacher repeats all the planets. Teacher checks the time. After that, asks
the students that they have questions or not. If the students dont have questions, teacher
ends the lesson, then clears the class and says goodbye.

Script
Good morning, everyone. How are you all today? Allow us to introduce ourselves.
We are your new science teacher. My name is ... Lets start the lesson.
When you look up to the sky at night, what did you see? Now, a day time you see
the sun right? From here, we only see them like a little shining spot. Are you wondering
what does it look like?
Space is a big place with a lot to explore. At the center of our solar system is the
Sun. Around the Sun orbit eight planets, as well as stars, bits of dust, comets and
meteoroids. We live in a spiral galaxy known as the Milky Way.
The sun
The sun is the star at the heart of our solar system. It contains 99.85% of all the
matter in the solar system. Its gravity and solar wind affect space far beyond the orbits of
the planets. Without the suns intense energy and heat, there would be no life on Earth.
Mercury
Lets start with Mercury. Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun. It is covered with
craters. The Sun shines 11 times brighter on Mercury than on Earth, so Mercurys day side
gets super hot. Its night side gets super cool. Its night side cools to hundreds of degrees
below freezing.
Venus
Next is Venus, Venus is the second planet from the Sun. It is about the same size as
Earth. Its thick atmosphere is mostly carbon dioxide, trapping heat like a greenhouse. That is
why Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system.
Earth and Moon
Now lets look at Earth. Earth has one large Moon. This Moons gravity makes Earth
a more livable planet by smoothing out Earths wobble on its axis, making the climate more
stable. Earth is the only planet that has life.

Mars
After that, Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is about half size of Earth. It has
a thin atmosphere of carbon dioxide. Mars had lots of water at one time, and no one knows
what happened to it. Lot of spacecraft from Earth has explored Mars, but we still have lots
of questions.
Jupiter
Now turning to Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet. With its many moons and huge
magnetic field, it is almost like a mini-solar system.
Saturn
Then, Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. It is the second largest planet. Saturn is
the magnificently ringed planet, with many moons too. It is a gas giant and is composed of
similar gasses, including hydrogen, helium and methane.
Uranus
Next, Gassy ice giant Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. Its core is rock and
ice, and its thick atmosphere is hydrogen, helium, and methane. The methane makes it look
blue. It has two sets of rings and 27 known moons.
Neptune
Last, Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun. It has faint rings. Triton is the
biggest by far of its 13 moons, and Neptune may have stolen it from the Kuiper Belt.
Conclusion
In conclusion, you know that Solar system consists of 8 planets, Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. Those planets go around the Sun.
OK. We seem to have finished a few minutes early. Do you have any questions?
Thiss about it for today. See you next class.
