Title: Popcorn, Four Corners Fitness, Movement Skills #7, and Midnight Lesson plan
(Pangrazi & Beighle, 2013).
II. Environmental Analysis:
a. Students prior knowledge of activities: This is a compiled four-part lesson that
has components from previous lessons presented and earlier in the semester.
There is no additional time required to introduce any portion of the lesson and its
components.
b. Limiting Factors:
i. There are no more than 20 second graders in one class period.
ii. The children are organized via their home classroom.
iii.
Physical Education classes will be held indoors inside the main gym.
iv. No additional equipment is necessary.
c. Rationale for selection:
i. The introduction of Popcorn will encourage students to listen and
ii.
iii.

execute proper movements per instructors directions.

The Four Corners Fitness will encourage mobility and spatial awareness.
Bean bags is a piece of equipment that can be used individually and/or a
partner without much movement required. The activity is designed to
promote eye & hand coordination. Movement skills will introduce the

iv.

differences of each movement, control, and speed too.

The game Midnight will encourage mobility and spatial awareness.

III. Block Plan:

Monday
P.E. (30 minutes)

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday
P.E. (30 minutes)

IV. Lesson Plan:

a. Objective: By the end of the lesson students will be able to learn:
i.

Execution of variations for turning, twisting, curling, rocking, stretching,

relaxing, and tension. (Psychomotor)

ii.

Understand the differences of turning, twisting, curling, etc. (Cognitive)

iii.
The benefits of turning, twisting, curling, etc. (Affective)
b. Pretest: No pretest necessary, because Destiny and Austin have already been
assessed on the TGMD test and scored within the Superior range. Willie has high
function in upper extremities.
c. Equipment:
i. (Fitness Portion) Fitness cones and signs will be placed in a square
formation in middle of class.

ii. Music.
iii. (Lesson portion) Bean bags will be placed around the perimeter of the
classroom.
V. Introduction: Upon entrance of the gym, students will execute a loco motor movement.
Willie will be the exception and move in the same direction as the others in his wheelchair
throughout the gym.
a. Intro: Popcorn (p.40).
i.

Pair up students

ii.

One student in push up (popcorn) position, other in standing near

partner.

iii.

Standing student moves around and/or over student in push up position.

iv.

Student in push up position pops up & down after each time they have
been moved over by.

v.

Switch roles.

b. Fitness: 4-Corners (p. 47).

i.

Move in clockwise direction.

ii.

As each student passes a sign, they will do that activity or motion until
they reach next sign.

iii.

After 30 seconds, pause to execute a fitness challenge as a group.

c. Lesson: Movement skills #7 (twisting, turning, rocking, curling, tension,

stretching, and choice of skill [pp. 67-68]).
i.

Variations of each skill and concepts.

ii.

Implement the Bean bag, choice of teacher to improve various

movement skills.

d. Game: Midnight (p.68).

i.

All students will line up on one side of room.

ii.

A Fox will chase kids once Midnight is called out.

iii.

Students will ask what time is it Mr. Fox?

iv.

Mr. Fox will respond with any #-oclock = # of steps, for example: 7
oclock = 7 steps.

VI. Modification:

a. Intro: Willie will go around his partner, instead of going over or under. When he is
to pop up or down, he will execute a seat lift by pushing himself up using his
handle bars and off his seat; this will substitute for a push-up and his partner must
also go around and not over or under.
b. Fitness: Willie will control his space on the perimeter of the group, so he is not a
potential harm to others within close proximity when students are required to
freeze in place. He will execute various exercises that closely mimic the original
ones. For the lower body exercises, he will choose his own exercise he is
comfortable with.
c. Lesson: No modification needed.
d. Game: All students who are in close proximity to Willie and his wheelchair, must
have a good buffer of space between them.
e. Modifications for Destiny and Austin: Only modifications that are necessary for
Destiny and Austin are repeat instructions or demonstrations if they need it.
VII. Modification Rationale:
a. Intro: Willie cannot do regular push-ups. To mimic a push-up, Willie will lift off
his seat using a dip exercise with his handler bars.
b. Fitness: During this portion, the fitness area gets crowded and the kids are
required to freeze in place. Willie will have to adjust to the outside perimeter of
the crowd opposed to the inside, just to eliminate any chance of running into
others or others running into him.
c. Lesson: No modifications are required, because Willie can execute many
movements from his chair. During the bean bag portion, he can do all the
catching and throwing from his chair efficiently.
d. Game: Any student close to Willie will need to create a buffer space from Willie
to avoid hard contact.
e. Destiny and Austin: Giving extra instructions or demonstrations provide a better
chance that they both understand the concepts and the objectives of what the P.E.
teacher is asking.
