ROUND 1

Determine whether you need a high structure or low structure

environment
Gauge whether they are independent or not
Start year off with high structure and this will set the tone
As the year progresses, make adjustments
Display classroom rules and implement these behaviors
Have children ownership of rules
Be specific with rules and how to create them
Rules should refer to observable behavior!
Some rules not applicable to behavior
Correct rules in the first week of school, and behaviors may have been
acceptable in classroom before, so we need to be patient!
Kids that come in mid-year, dont assume they know what youre
talking about.

ROUND 2

Make the children think they have ownership of the rules!

Be specific in the rules you cannot always raise your hand during
instruction time since you may have stations
Automatic with raising your hand, doing your best, but we need to
think about it.
Level of structuremeaning who is the previous year teacher may not
have been so structured so this makes a difference.

ROUND 3

JR. High has an entire set of rules, and we need to have clear
expectations for all students!!
Having kids come in through mid-year, and go over rules with them!

Keep in mind that some children have no formal education since they
are refugees
Every grade needs consistency
Posters for all different aspects of transitions, etc. are what we need!
WE NEED CONSISTENCY IN ALL AREAS IN SCHOOL!
