Dear Mrs. Kent:
I am writing in application for the occupational therapy position available at St. Peters Hospital. Moving
to the area shortly, I was excited to hear about what a great rehabilitation program was offered at this
facility. Having done an internship in a rehabilitation center before, I know the job responsibilities very
well.
From the first time I observed an occupational therapist in an outpatient rehabilitation facility, I knew this
was the type of environment I wanted to work in. Since then, I have pursued two internships for
occupational therapy, one in a rehabilitation center and one in an elementary school through my
undergraduate college. At the rehabilitation facility I worked with many clients affected by stroke and
arthritis complications to name a few. I independently ran exercise groups for ten to fifteen clients
undergoing occupational therapy. I then continued my education, working toward my Masters degree in
occupational therapy to be completed in May of 2017.
During my Masters program, I had the opportunity to intern in a pediatric, mental health, and geriatric
setting. In all settings, I created and ran groups pertaining to their needs. For the geriatric population, I
was able to run creative groups that encouraged strength and range of motion. Within my Masters course
material, I have been provided with an abundance of information pertaining to a rehabilitation facility.
The coursework has provided me with the background knowledge of various diagnoses and effective
treatment methods to aid in the rehabilitation of these diagnoses. In addition, I had the opportunity to be a
lab assistant in the sensorimotor lab. In doing this, I was able to help the first year students learn skills
including measuring active range of motion, testing sensation and strength, as well as learning safe
transfer techniques. My schooling has provided me with a solid foundation to be within this environment.
Working in a rehabilitation center for those of all ages requires dedication, experience, and patience. My
education and experience in these areas have prepared me for a rewarding career as an occupational
