Diocesan Day Aug. 21, 2010. Please join Bishop Stika
and His Eminence Justin Cardinal Rigali for Diocesan
Day 2010 Sat. Aug 21 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at
Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knox. Cardinal Rigali will
be the keynote speaker. The theme is Feed my
sheep. His Eminence will offer an afternoon
reflection My life with the Popes. Bishop Stika will
give the homily during Mass and will provide an
afternoon reflection. Proceeds will assist Catholic
Charities Pregnancy Help Services and Catholic Relief

Vacation Bible School High Seas: Admiral

Health Ministry
Did you know that poor dental health can cause
poor health in general? Gingivitis can lead to gum
disease and serious dental problems and tooth
loss. Here are some easy tips to improve your
dental health. You should devote at least three
minutes three times a day to good oral hygiene.
Use a soft bristled tooth brush and dont brush too
hardeven dry (without toothpaste) brushing
helps. Clean you mouth thoroughly, brush your
tongue and the roof of your mouth. Dont forget
flossing this is the only way food debris between
your teeth comes out. Use baking soda
occasionally in place of toothpaste it can aid in
getting rid of plaque. Eat a more balanced diet.
Put dental visits into your routine. Good oral
hygiene can help prevent gingivitis and full blown
gum disease. Keep your smile bright and healthy

a weekend experience combined with a series of

making VBS free, but could use your
donations for craft, decoration and food

There is a critical need for blood donations in our
area and the supply is low at this time. We would like
to plan for a blood drive at OLPH in the Fall but since
the need is great now we are asking that anyone who
can donate whether you donate on a regular basis or
not please try to help. You may call Blood Assurance

Assurance locations accept walk-ins. You may
mention that you are donating for OLPH. If you would
like to help plan a drive in the Fall please call Pam or

The OLPH Home & School Association has formed a
Grounds Keeping and Beautification Committee. If
you are interested in working on this committee on a
regular basis please call Beth Tapley 423-290-0766 or
bethtapley@gmail.com. All parishioners and their
families are invited to help us keep our church and
school grounds looking beautiful year round. There
will be a Work Day scheduled for Saturday June 26
from 9:00-1:00. Please meet in the back parking lot
and bring shovels, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows, gloves
and any other gardening tools you like to use. We have
mulch to spread, flowers to water and weeding to do.
All ages are welcome. In addition to this work day
weekly help is required to keep the landscaping
looking nice. Weeding and watering needs to be done
on a regular basis to keep all of our plants healthy
during the hot summer months!. We would like to
have many hands to make the work light! A calendar
of weekly sign up dates is posted in the church foyer.
Please sing up to help. Working on this committee
during the summer is a good way to start your PIP

activities, and possibly have access to laundry facilities. This is also a time
for the families to take showers in the gym.
Overnight Hosts: 10-11 hours, 8 pm-6:30 am. 1-2 people or a family.

Hosts must be over the age of 18. Parents can bring their youngerschool age
children. Hosts spend the night at Madonna Hall. Beds will be set up in a
separate classroom that is off limits to the families. Hosts can bring sleeping
bags, pillows, or blankets for their use. Overnight hosts spend time with the
guests, help children with homework, and are available in case of
emergency. They wake the families at 6:00 or earlier as needed for the
families to prepare for breakfast and get ready to leave for work or the 1HN
Agency. Some hosts have brought breakfast.
If you are interested in any of above volunteer positions you must sign
up in the designated date and time on the poster board located in Holy
Family Hall or call one of us.
There are other ways to you can help with the IHN Homeless ministry.
Some other ways are:
Supplies: Volunteers can purchase the food staples for snacks, lunches,
breakfast, and drinks, paper products, cleaning supplies and
otherneeded items.
Activities: Volunteers plan and organize special activities and events, such
asarts-and-crafts projects, video parties, and outings for the
children and families.
Donations: Monies can be donated to OLPH to be used to purchase the
above mentioned supplies. Volunteers, in coordination with the
IHNI Agency, collect, coordinate, organize, and/or provide
clothing, furniture, and household items which are distributed
to the families once they are settled in permanent housing.
