VPA Reflection Statement
After reading from the VPA framework, I am aware that an educator is expected to
have an understanding about how to guide students into developing many locomotor skills.
Educators should be knowledgeable in what skills students develop at appropriate ages to
support their growth. In addition, teachers should have an understanding about how to integrate
the arts like there and music with english. The VPA exhibited varies examples in which students
not only gained knowledge about the theater but also learned new vocabulary that can be utilized
to break down stories. According to the framework educators should be aware about how to have
students extend their vocabulary with words such as tempo, rhythm, costume, plot, setting,
cooperation, and character. Another approaches one may take is with art and geometric shapes.
Still, the most interesting integration with two subjects I found was the connection between story
telling in theatre, and writing a story for english, students can learn about a beginning, middle,
and end in more engaging ways. On the other hand, though dance one can expose students to
different song and dances of varies cultures and have students gain and understanding about the
geographical origin of the song and maybe even have them compare the song to others they've
heard. The VPA framework made clear connections to two of the courses I have taken KIN 425,
and KIN 447. In the course KIN 425 I gained a great understanding about how students should
be physically developing and what skills students should be proficient at in specific ages. Next,
to the course KIN 447 because along with familiarizing ourselves with skills students should be
proficient at we also focused on integrating two subjects to engage students and better their
understanding.

The artifact I chose was a lesson plan I along with two other group members taught o my
peers. My lesson plan focuses on having students gain an understanding about Dutch dancing, its
origin, and the costumes or attire the performers use. As the VPA framework mentioned I used a
folk dance to help students gain an understating of another culture and their traditional dances
and attire. My lesson is directed towards fourth graders, however, accommodations can be made
for other grades.
I chose this artifact because it demonstrates that I am capable of creating a lesson plan. In
order to put my artifact together I had to familiarize myself with the standards, make
accommodations to the age group I was assigned, and work well with other peers whom worked
with the same grade level to lesson plan. As a learner my artifact demonstrates that I can engage
students into learning about other cultures and maintain their health. In addition, it demonstrates
I am familiar with integrating subjects as the framework mentioned. My students would be
gaining knowledge about several cultures, their tradition, and their attire while being active.
