A school newsletter site points out how women are still facing oppression in present day United
States whether it is in the work field or in the societal stereotypes established. Media portrayal of
women can and have also played as a factor in depicting women in a less than adequate light.
This source is a good starting point for critical research regarding the topic and appears to be free
of grammatical errors but the publicized source itself is not heavy on informational data. There
isnt a citation/reference page for further inquiry on the matter following the text. However, there
are points worth considering such as government involvement critical to proving the presence of
inequality between genders. Ghaninejad brings up the point of Senate Republicans refusing to
pass the Paycheck Fairness Act in 2014 despite it being a persisting matter since the year 2012.
The inclusion of a timeline leading up to the most recent year with evidence of inequality of
women is helpful and matches up with title. Personally, I find it very important to have a title that
matches the body for accurate research purposes. I would add that Ghaninejad doesnt appear
biased, more on the side of pointing out an evident issue. While concluding the text, Ghaninejad
uses the word individuals when dealing with the fact that self-content should be emphasized
above approval from others. This tells me that although oppression of women is the most

prominent, oppression isnt limited to a single gender alone. I included this source because its a
clean-cut depiction of the direction Im heading in with the prominence of oppression/inequality
in women. Women werent given recognition until the 1900s and we are heading into 2017 yet
the matter still remains that women are still lacking recognition in a modern society. The
Paycheck Fairness Act was introduced in 1997 and have been passed up ten times so my question
is how modern is the United States really?

I grabbed this source from the UNC Charlotte Library database and it is from the Feminist
Theology journal. This peer reviewed article by M.D Lutwak raises the question of rape and
oppression of women being a worldly issue. Lutwak points out that something the world has in
common is their mistreatment and lack of respect for women. The view on women around the
world has led to cases revolving around rape culture, assault, and/or humiliation. I believe this
article has credibility because its more formally published and includes references to credible
sources such as research in nursing and health which gave Lutwak some background information
on treatment of women in a military environment. Per one of the source references for example,
as high as 40% of female veterans have had encounters with physical assault, humiliation, and
rape. One thing I found between this text and the school newsletter source is that they both seem
to introduce very valuable points that can aid my thesis yet there isnt much elaboration after the
initial points. Lutwak mentions how women are viewed as objects throughout the world but
doesnt follow up with real world examples. A bias isnt clearly displayed in this text but I found
some of the repetitive wording gives out hints of underlying anger which is understandable given

the topic. I would like to inquire more evidence of worldwide takes on treatment of women and
this article did not cut it for me. However, the mention of military treatment of women was the
one factor of this article I found valuable for further inquiry. Lutwak could back up the title of
her text which is why rape and oppression of women remains a worldly problem, she gave a lot
more should-happen scenarios whereas Im gearing more towards the how things are currently
looking for women type of aspect.

This source is a student produced video dealing with the oppression middle eastern women face
every day due to the strict cultural interpretation of women in the middle east. Young girls go
through processes such as genital mutilation and are subject to being submissive to males based
on societal rules. The creator of this video provided a compilation of major points to the
oppression of women and provided a list of sources at the end of the video. This tells me the
creator committed extensive research on the matter while making an informal but educational
video. However, I noticed some of the given sources were blog posts which is more free-write
rather than factual. Essrisify does bring up the Quran in her video presentation including sources
for that minute mention of religious background playing a role which adds credibility to her
words and whether she has the confidence to back up her findings. In talks about source bias,
personally I feel there is a bias when it came to how she interprets middle eastern religious
practices. Essrisify couldve included some reasoning behind why middle eastern culture call for
female genital mutilation a bias would be avoided. It may not make sense to outsiders but this is
a part of a practice that involve very deeply rooted customs. My inquiry includes the worldly
history of inequality and oppression of women in which the middle east takes up a big chunk

pertaining to religious interpretation of women. Video sources are popular for the fact that they
can condense topics without too much strenuous reading for auditory learners, many credible
sources come with a transcript for visual learners as well. I believe I can find useful footage on
my topic such as an interview from mistreated female veterans which was brought up briefly by
Lutwak in the Feminist Theology journal article.

This entry posted on psychology today provides readers with examples of the maltreatment
committed against women in foreign places such as India, China, and Greece. Taylor follows his
examples with a psychological take on why men oppress women such as high levels of
testosterone and how men seem to feel entitled to superiority. The author is knowledgeable in
psychology based on his credentials as a senior lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, Taylor also
holds a Ph.D. which adds to the credibility of using his text as a source. Taylor has published two
psychology books detailing the human mind based on the mini background given on the author
which assures me of an accurate source. Taylor brings up new information Ive yet to touch in
relations to my topic such as the witch-killing mania from as far back as the 15 th century. He can
back up each point he makes and ties everything together very smoothly using phrases such as
linked to or in connection to, something the previous sources lacked. The previously mentioned
sources brought up some valid points but werent quite able to tie every point back to the main
reason behind why they wrote the text. I wish to tie some psychology of the male way of
thinking into my research just like the point of the effect of testosterone on male behavior was

brought up in the source. This is also the only male source Ive looked to, most sources on my
topic is mainly by a female author. Despite being on the opposite receiving end of oppression,
Taylor could objectively bring up matters and opinions that paint males such as himself in a bad
light which avoids him being biased on the matter. This source was my most valuable find so far
based on information, level of organization, grammar, thought provoking points, etc.
Thompson, Christine. Have Women Always Been Oppressed? Socialist Alternative, Socialist

This source brings up oppression of women using socialism as the ideological focus point.
Socialism avoids elitism within society aiming for goals such as eliminating poverty, inequality,
violence, and oppression. This text is in the form of an electronic version of a pamphlet and
contains tabs with different contents such as liberal feminism, class and identity, or the tab on
historical events in Russia pertaining to women. Socialist Alternative is a legitimate organization
that produces very informative texts with their formal publications made from Socialist
Publications Ltd which confirms its a credible source. Thompson is advocating her book that
deals with struggling to achieve socialism and how women have been victims of that struggle.
This online pamphlet provides an excellent condensed insight on the book by sectioning the
information. There arent any vague points, overly opinionated statements, or grammatical errors
so I dont doubt the credibility of the text. However, I think Thompson couldve properly
referenced the book she is advocating rather than referring to it as the book. I do appreciate
the footnotes containing sources other than her book because it proves that others share the same
thoughts on the topic. This source trumps the previously listed sources in detail, the pamphlet
was very in depth with what the book should offer such as women in the working class lacking

resources detailed under the class and identity tab. This source takes on the approach of theory
such as Marxism, or capitalism which can be a valuable addition to my inquiry. Thompson also
provides extensive background on events in Russia such as women making up 40% of the
workforce in the first world war that has left an impact on women. That section adds to the
worldly evidence of oppression of women brought up but not quite detailed in the other sources
such as the mention of it being a worldly problem in the text written by Lutwak. The pamphlet
also allowed me to notice how foreign countries contain a significant amount of history linking
to the oppression of women, there seems to be a pattern of that in much of my listed sources.
