IP
Internetworking Protocol
The set of communication protocols which enable computers to
'talk' to each other over the internet
IP chops up the data - whether an email, a web-page, or a
picture - into packets or datagram. Each 'packet' of information
contains both the sender's internet address and the receiver's
address. This allows the packets to reach their intended
destination or, if necessary, to be returned to the sender.

Media Gateway
Generic term used for the Gateway between QoS Packet
Network and the PSTN/ISDN. There are three types of gateways:
the Trunking Gateway, the Access Gateway, and the Network
Access Server or "Non-Voice" Gateway. Media Gateways are
termination points for the Media Gateway Control Protocol.
Media Gateways terminate MGCP links.

QoS
Quality of Service
Quality of Service applies to a wide range of parameters that
determines how a user perceives a network service. It includes
the following factors - availability; congestion; delay; jitter and
bandwidth.
In the context of IP services QoS implies prioritizing network
resources against pre-determined classifications of traffic. The
lowest classification is 'best effort' which is used by the public
internet. Session-based QoS is used to improve the delivery of a
flow or application session to an end user or users and allows a
particular application session to be distinguished from other
traffic being received by the same user.
