meaningful links by the students;
Establish links with the students' culture in the proposed learning activities.

How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/fi eld
experience?

I feel as though I have developed competency one through means of acting as a professional
inheritor and critical interpreter of knowledge. I have accomplished this through working with
students of all levels in the STEPS program at Westmount high, Montral, QC. I was presented with
many opportunities to interpret knowledge and be critical of it in a very professional manner,
particularly with subjects such as English and History. I have further developed this competency in
working well with Mackay students. I feel as though I was one step ahead in anticipating the
needs of the students. For instance, inviting students to join activities when recognizing that they
felt left out. I do not feel that I have fully developed criticality in terms of culture when teaching
students. I feel as though I was not presented with opportunities to demonstrate criticality
towards culture. As a result I feel that I have obtained a thorough level of mastery in this particular
competency.

or peers.

a consistent, effective, constructive and respectful way during discussions.

How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/fi eld
experience?
I have developed this competency through many instances such as participating in class
discussions, group work, one on one tutoring, as well as taking part in being a scribe and reader
for tests and examinations. I participated in using appropriate language when speaking to my
peers as well as staff members with respect to teaching strategies and when meetings would be
held. I was not presented with an opportunity to converse with a parent. However, I feel that
because of prior exposure and experience with using appropriate language with my peers and
colleagues, that I would have excelled in using appropriate language with parents as well. Strong
attention had to be paid to grammar when acting as a scribe for students writing tests and
examinations. I further look part in supporting my ideas and arguing my subject matter in a
consistent and effective way during classrooms discussions with students. When helping a grade
8 student reading at a grade 3 level, I corrected speaking and writing techniques and prompted
the student to repeat or rewrite the phrase correctly in order to ensure retention. Over the
