Emily's plan always align exactly with the curriculum and address the required objectives. At times, her timing was off,
either taking too much time in a lesson or not focusing enough on important skills. This was an area Emily was very
aware of and worked hard to master throughout her student teaching experience.

Q19: Please comment on the teacher candidate's performance in the area of assessment of and for student
learning.
Emily was thorough in collecting student data after teaching lessons and often reviewed that data, but the feedback to
the students was not always immediate. Students were assessed frequently and when working in small group, the
feedback was frequent and constructive.

PAGE 6: Standard Five: Learning Environment

Q20: Using the following scale, please rate the teacher candidate's performance in each of the areas below.
Establishes clear expectations for classroom rules and
procedures; enforces them consistently and fairly.

race, gender, and special needs.

Superior

Actively listens and pays attention to students needs and

responses.

Superior

Q21: Please comment on the teacher candidate's overall effectiveness in creating an environment conducive
to learning.
Emily was very engaged with the students and was aware of their needs, helping them as necessary. While Emily set
clear expectations for the classroom, the follow through sometimes was lacking as far as consequences go. Emily was
quick to redirect, but if the redirection was not efficient, Emily sometimes struggled with where to go next. This was
something we were working on towards the end of her student teaching and I am sure it will continue to develop as she
gains more experience. The students respected her and listened, but certain students needed more than just
redirection.

Emily was always eager to have feedback about her lessons or management. She modified her own behavior
appropriately and was receptive to all ideas given. Her openness to growth and feedback allowed her to grow
exponentially as a teacher, without feeling defensive. She interacted with other school personnel in a professional
manner and took on all responsibilities as a teacher, without hesitation or needing to be told. Her initiative as a student
teacher was exemplary.

placement.

Proficient

Provides evidence that achievement goals have been met.

Proficient

progress and develop learning targets.

Proficient

Q25: Please comment on the students academic progress throughout the period of observation.
When working in reading comprehension, Emily set clear goals for the students each week and encouraged them to
continue to work hard to meet their goals. As this was so early in the year, initial goals were still being set, so it was
hard to monitor their growth and we were still gathering baseline data.
