Classroom Management Plan

Beliefs of Classroom Environment
In my classroom, I would have my room organized, will enforce responsibility within the
classroom, will be student centered, will create a welcoming classroom environment, and will be
equal with students in their gender, race, ethnicity, religion and etc. Organization will be placed
in my classroom through having classroom helpers, having certain areas that students will turn in
papers, and having a schedule for every day. Classroom helpers will include the pencil sharpener,
the paper helper, the office helper and etc. This will be posted on a bulletin board within the
classroom. Beside each list of helpers, there will be a number. This number is the number that is
assigned to the students on the first day of school, which will be on their desk throughout the
year. Students will also have certain areas to turn in their papers for the classroom. There will be
a homework section, a classroom paper section, and important papers section. The students will
turn in their homework first thing in the morning into the homework section. The students will
turn in their classroom work when told into the classroom paper section. The important papers
section will be the place where students turn in papers such as permission forms or any important
papers from home. The schedule for each day will be placed up on the board at the beginning of
the day. Responsibility will be enforced by the students taking responsibility for their own papers
and taking responsibilities with being the helpers in the classroom. My classroom will be student

centered by allowing the students to decide on certain activities they will play at recess, allowing
them to decide what is needed to help the classroom, and allowing them to take part in creating
assignments. I will also create a welcoming physical environment in my classroom. Denise
Young says make sure that the room temperature is moderate to cool. Warm classrooms tend to
lead students to be more sleepy, inattentive, and consequently bored and disruptive. If necessary,
use a fan to maintain a good airflow, keeping the room cooler. I never have thought about a
classroom being warm to where the students will be sleepy, which would be a major problem
within the classroom. I will also be equal with students no matter the differences that they have. I
will not be biased in their gender, race, ethnicity, or religion by not bringing up within the
classroom. Sometimes gender can be brought up in classrooms though when trying to make an
activity competitive between the boys and the girls. I would not do this in my classroom though
if that year I had a student that was transgendered or had any other problems with identifying
with their gender. With disciplinary procedures, I will never use timeout as a disciplinary
procedure. While these kids are in timeout, it is taking them away from their educational
opportunity that they should be receiving in the classroom. Instead, I will take away recess time,
move their desk to another position, or send home a report to their parents, if it gets to be a
severe problem.
Philosophy of Education
In my philosophy, I said I would display classroom rules. Below is the bulletin board that I
would use in
which will

Classroom Rules

2. Stay Quiet When The Teacher Is Absent

Support from Theories/Researchers

The two theorists that I mainly agree with are Charles C. Bonwell and Albert Bandura.
Bonwell is responsible for active learning, while Bandura is responsible for the social learning
theory. With active learning, according to ericae.net, all learning is inherently active and
students are therefore actively involved while listening to formal presentations in the classroom.
Students must do more than just listen: They must read, write, discuss, or be engaged in solving
problems. With active learning, it must be incorporated within the classroom. Discussion in
class is one of the most common strategies promoting active learning with good reason. Other
active learning pedagogies worthy of instructors' use include cooperative learning, debates,
drama, role playing and simulation, and peer teaching Active learning also helps students who
are kinesthetic learners, which are students who learn through being active. I feel like this helps
for any student though because it helps for them to be attentive during class and it keeps them
awake. Also, most active learning lessons are fun for students and they enjoy it more than just
sitting in a seat and doing a worksheet.
With Banduras social learning theory, it is a behaviorist theory that can help to control
the behaviors of the students. According to Saul McLeod, children observe the people around
them behaving in various ways. Individuals that are observed are called models. In society,
children are surrounded by many influential models, such as parents within the family, characters

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

on childrens TV, friends within their peer group and teachers at school. These models provide
examples of behavior to observe and imitate. This shows what a teacher needs to be within the
classroom because the students will model whatever the teacher does. The social learning theory
also involves reinforcement. Reinforcement can be external or internal and can be positive or
negative. If a child wants approval from parents or peers, this approval is an external
reinforcement, but feeling happy about being approved of is an internal reinforcement. A child
will behave in a way which it believes will earn approval because it desires approval. I, the
teacher, have to be a positive model for my students in order for them to be positive students
within the classroom. When the students are being the positive model that they are supposed to
be, the student deserves praise through positive reinforcement.

Letter of Introduction to Students

Hello, I am going to be your new second grade teacher Ms.

Reynolds. Your classroom this year will be located in room number
eight. I am so excited to have you in my class this year! I have heard
so many good things about you all from your previous teachers, Mrs.
Elliot and Mr. Jones. This year we will be going on many fun field trips,
we will celebrate all the fun holidays, and we will do many arts and
crafts as activities. Not only will you be experiencing my class this
year, you will also experiencing music class with Mrs. Edwards,
guidance class with Mrs. Johnson, and physical education class with
Mr. Call. I want all of you to be able to be comfortable with me and all

of the other teachers. I will want you all to come to me and be able to
talk to me about anything and everything no matter. I will always be
here for you when no one else is. I cannot wait to get to know every
single one of you all!
Letter of Introduction to Parents
Hello parents, my name is Tiffany Reynolds. I graduated from Graham High School and
also from Bluefield State College. My college degree ranges from the grades kindergarten to
sixth grade. Im excited to be your childs second grade teacher this year! I have always wanted
to be a teacher throughout my life. I come from a family of teachers, my mother being a preschool teacher and my sister being a first grade teacher. Being a teacher is not only a career for
me, but also my passion.
Throughout the year, the students will be learning about different subjects, will be going
on many different field trips, and will have many different school programs come to our school.
The students will definitely learn about Math and English, but Science and History will be most
likely incorporated within the Math and English subjects. This is due to short amount of time we
have to teach Math and English. The field trips that we will be going on are at The Crab Orchard
Museum for the corn maze during the fall season, The Science Center during the spring season,
and the Movie Theater to watch an educational movie during the summer season. The different
school programs that will be at the school this year is the fall festival during the month of
October, the fire department coming in to teach the students about fire safety during the month of
November, and the graham intermediate choir coming in the month of December to sing to us
Christmas Carols.

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

November 3rd, 2016

With disciplining the students, there are rules that need to be followed. This students must
stay quiet in the hallway, when I am absent from the room they must stay quiet, when there is a
substitute teacher instead of myself, the students must treat them respect like they do with me,
and they must obey the Golden Rule of treating others the way that you want to be treated. If the
student breaks any of these rules, they will get a checkmark for each time they break a rule. If the
student receives two checkmarks, they miss half of recess time. If the student receives three
checkmarks, they miss recess time fully. If the student still acts out based on the rules, you will
be contacted for either a meeting or just a talk over the phone.
Important dates to be remembered is the parent teacher conference dates and special
events, which will be listed on the monthly calendars that will be given to you at the beginning
of each month. Reminder, if there is anything that you need you can call me at 276-385-2226 or
e-mail me at reynolds_tf@live.bluefieldstate.edu. Thank You!
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
When the students arrive in the classroom, they will get out whatever they need to get out
of their backpacks and put up their backpacks in their cubby. Also students will put up their
lunchboxes as well. If they have any homework to turn in at all, they will turn it in at the
homework station. Once all of this is finished, they will start working on the bell work, which
will be up on the board before they come into the classroom. For dismissal, I will call for car
riders to come line up to the door and then name off all of the individual bus drivers name. If the
student rides on that certain bus, they will line up when that name is called. If they are going to
dismissal for anything else like recess or any other classes, they will listen for their desk number
to be called and line up when they do hear their number. For the dismissal for lunch, students

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

November 3rd, 2016

will have to answer an educational question. This question could be something like, tell me a
word that rhymes with cat.
Tardy/Absence Procedure
If a student is tardy for class, they will go to the tardy station, take a tardy slip and feel it
out. They will place their name, the time that they came into the classroom, and the reason why
they are tardy on the slip. They will then place this in the tardy basket. I will pick up all of the
tardy slips after thirty minutes through the class. This is when I will be able to also know who is
absent in the classroom. Throughout the day, whatever papers and assignments the absent student
has missed I will placed their names on top of the paper and have the paper helper at the end of
the day place the papers in the absent assignments box. The student will pick up the work from
the absent assignments box when they return to the school.
Homework Procedure
For the homework, students will write in their planners what their homework assignment
is for that night. Their homework assignment will be written on the board for them to write
within their planner. Also on the board will be the materials that the students will need to take
home to complete their homework. Students will do this during the end of the day. When the
students walk into the classroom for the next morning, they will place their finished homework
in the homework slot at the station. This enforces responsibility from the student within the
classroom.
Procedures for Getting Students Attention/Getting Teachers Attention
During class time, students may get off track through discussion. This is when I, the
teacher, will say 1-2-3 back to me. When I say this students should be quiet and return back to

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

November 3rd, 2016

me for the lesson. If they still do not quiet down I will repeat the saying. This is when possibly a
couple more students are still talking. That is when I point them out individually and take away
points from their Dojo character. The students can grab my attention simply by raising their
hand. If I am not looking at that time, I expect for the student to come up to me ask the question
that they have for me.
Line Up/Hallway/Restroom Procedures
When students line up, they will called by their number that they were assigned on the
first day of school. This number will be posted on their desk. When students are in the hallway,
they are expected to be quiet. Before we enter the hallway, we will say the rhyme Hands on My
Hips, Ill Shut My Lips. This is when the students should put their hands on their hips and are
quiet when they enter the hallway. If they are not quiet when they are in the hallway, they will be
deducted points on Dojo as a class. Students will use the restroom after lunch. They will line up
at the restroom door and three people will go in at a time. Also, if students are in the classroom
and need to go to the restroom, the student will ask the teacher if they can go to the bathroom
and the student will take the bathroom pass with them to the bathroom. Once they return to the
classroom, they will put the bathroom pass back to where it belongs.
Bullying Procedures for Student as Victim and as Bystander
If a student feels like he or she are victimized by bullying they will need to come to an
adult and talk to that adult about themselves being bullied. If a student comes up to me to
complain about being bullied, I will hand them a sheet to feel out about the bullying. The student
will write their name, the date, and the bullying that is done to them on the sheet of paper. Most
likely an adult can fix the bullying problem. If a student is a bystander of seeing someone getting

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

November 3rd, 2016

bullied, they are expected to either tell an adult about the bullying, step in and stop the bully, or
be there for the person that is bullied. The students will know of these bullying procedures
because it will be posted in my classroom for students to see throughout the year.

Classroom Rules/Discipline: Include at least 3-5 rules, rewards, consequences, type

of system, and accountability component
With the classroom there will need to be rules, rewards, and consequences. Many of the
rules will include staying quiet in the hallway, respecting others, staying quiet when the teacher
is absent from the room, when there is a substitute teacher present instead of myself, they must
treat them with respect like they would myself, and they must obey the Golden Rule of treating
others the way that you want to be treated. If students follow these rules they will be rewarded by
receiving points on Dojo, which is a website used within classrooms, receiving a chance to grab
something out of the treasure box, and/or being able to eat lunch outside. If students do not
follow these rules they will receive the consequences of points deducted from their Dojo, loss of
time at recess, and/or the loss of fun Friday, which involves students doing something fun at the
end of the week, like playing outside, playing something in the gym, or watching a movie. I
would use a consequence system during my teaching. With the rules, if the student breaks at least
one rule they will get a check mark for breaking that rule. When a student receives two check
marks, they will have half of their recess taken away from them. When a student receives three
check marks, they will have their whole recess taken away from them. If the student keeps on
breaking the rules or being disruptive, the parents will be contacted and either be asked to meet
me to talk about their child or either simply just talk over the phone about their child. I will make
sure that the students realize what they have done wrong by simply asking them what they did

Tiffany Reynolds

wrong and why it is wrong to do that. This will repeatedly go on until the student understands
what they have done wrong.

This sheet will be put on the students desks and it will also be projected on the projector.
I will model this whole sheet with the students, so they will be comfortable with me and
understand how to complete the assignment. The students will have this hung up in the room.
Detailed List of Specific Items to be accomplished before First Day of School (Must include
but not limited to: bulletin boards, seating chart, arrangement of materials)
Create letters to students and letters to parents. Print them out and place them on the
students desks.
Place students names and assigned numbers on desks. These are important for students
to be able to line up when their number is called.
Create the classroom helpers station. The helpers will be the pencil sharpener, the paper
helper, the office helper, and etc. Students numbers will be posted with the helpers.
Have the schedule posted for the first day of school on the board. This will help for
students to know what they are supposed to do at all times.
Put up bulletin boards of classroom rules, bully procedures, and etc. This will help for
students to refer back to the bulletins to see what they are supposed to be doing.
Create the turn in station and absentee station. The turn in station will have a section of
cubbies that are either labeled homework, classroom work, or important papers. The
absentee station is simply folders that are stapled to the board with the students numbers
on them. When the student is absent, their papers will be placed in their folders.
Create my classroom library and treasure box. The classroom library will consist of grade
level story books for the children. The treasure box will be full of toys and candy for the
children that act great throughout the day or week.
Create my Dojo website for my classroom. This will help with attendance, rewarding the
students, and disciplining the students.
Get together all of the assignments for the first week of school.
Arrange the seats the way I wanted them arranged according to my classroom map.

Details on How the Teacher will Greet Students

I, the teacher, will greet the students with a smile and wave. This positive gesture starts
the day off in a positive way. It also creates a classroom environment that is positive, rather than
negative. If a student wants to give me a hug, I will give them a hug back. If you reject their hug,
it may cause them to be depressed or upset. If a child is crying because they do not want to leave
their parents, that is when the teacher should try and comfort the student. The teacher should
explain to them that they will have fun during school, that their parents will be back at the end of
the day, and that they will make new friends through the day. The teacher may be able to pair
them up with a friend that could help comfort them as well. Either way the teacher should greet
the students in a positive way, whether it is the first day of school or even the last day of school.
Description of How Procedures will be Taught (include explain, rehearse, reinforce)
When the students first come into the classroom, they will receive their bell work.
Through this bell work, students will learn how to react towards my modeling as a teacher. I will
explain to them what to do, they will show that they can do it, and throughout the school year the
students will observe modeling. The rules and procedures will then be taught to the students in
the class. With the rules being taught, the students should be aware of the rewards and
consequences for these rules. The students will be taught the rules for the classroom, the bullying
procedures, how to turn in their assignments, what to do when they are absent, how to tell if they
are a classroom helper that week, and what to do when they first come into the classroom. We
would then as a classroom practice these procedures through different scenarios. The students
will also practice turning in papers when they learn about math and reading. All of this will be
reinforced throughout the year when the students have to act on these procedures and rules. Like

Tiffany Reynolds

Classroom Management Plan

November 3rd, 2016

I have always said, students learn more and more through practicing and doing throughout the
year.
Description of how rules are selected/presented to students and how they will be enforced
The rules that will be first selected are my own rules that I have made. These rules
include staying quiet while in the hallway, staying quiet when the teacher is absent from the
room, treating the substitute teacher with respect just like they would with the regular teacher, to
not speak when someone else is already speaking, and the golden rule of treating others the way
that you want to be treated. These rules will be placed within the classroom, so that the students
can see the rules always. Throughout the year, more rules can be made when the teacher sees
what problems he or she has out of her or his students. Once a rule gets added in, it will be added
onto the rules that are already presented. These rules will be enforced through the consequence
system. Every time a student breaks a rule, they receive a checkmark beside their name on the
board. The first checkmark is a warning to the student that they better not break anymore rules.
The second checkmark takes away half of the time from recess and might also deduct a point
from their Dojo character. The third checkmark takes away a students whole time at recess and
will deduct a point from their Dojo character. If the student continues on breaking the rules, the
parent will be contacted and the teacher will either speak with the parent of the situation or plan a
meeting to converse about the situation. If students follow these rules, they will receive awards,
whether it is from the treasure box or receiving points for their Dojo character.
