Ed 4361: Culminating Inquiry Project

Focus Point: To what extent has contemporary schooling been shaped by its
history?
Project: Write an essay answering the following question: What are the most significant
historical legacies for contemporary schooling? Must be maximum 4000 words.
Project Proposal

Focus inquiry question:


o The focus point will be centered on the assigned inquiry question: What are the
most significant historical legacies for contemporary schooling in Canada?

Brief description of product/format:


o My written assignment will begin with a detailed introduction of what I believe to
be important historical changes and legacies that have lead to contemporary
schooling in Canada. The assignment will then dive into the body that will be
focused on four main topics, with each topic consisting of 2-3 supporting
characteristics that have aided the main focus. Each characteristic will be
supported with both secondary and primary resources to strengthen the argument.
The assignment will be summarized with a quick recap of each main point and
their impact on the main inquiry question.
o These are the four main focus points:

Curriculum adjustments

Initial format and different courses included

Drive for classical education

Transition to student-centered classrooms and learning objectives
