Self-regulating healthcare profession involves setting a goal,
engaging in goal-directed behavior, monitoring progress toward the goal, and
adjusting ones behavior when sufficient progress towards the goal is not
being made (Terry, M. and Leary, M., 2011, p.352). Self compassion can benefit
self-regulation by the following lowering defensiveness, reducing the emotional
states and self-blame that interfere with self-regulation, and increasing
compliance with medical recommendations, and adjusting ones behavior
when sufficient progress towards the goal is not being made ( Terry, M. and
Leary, M., 2011, p.352). Lastly, it promotes good practice and prevents poor
practice and intervenes in unacceptable practice (Canadian Nurses Association,
2007, p.2).

(2 marks)
Use examples to
illustrate how this might occur. (2 marks)
Self-regulation supports massage therapists as individuals by the
universal protocols. An example for this can be when we re massaging an
individual and they have a cut and blood is coming out and you got a paper
cut previous to treating the individual.
There are guidelines and policies protecting each therapist individually in
order to ensure an efficient practice. An example of this is could be client
records and consent.
How might self-regulation contribute to quality assurance? (1 mark)
Again, use examples to illustrate your points. (1 mark)
Self-regulation contributes to quality assurance by allowing there to be
something for us as therapists to reference on. For example, it will help us
practice our healthy behaviour precautions around different patients as
physical (universal precautions) but as well as mentally healthy. For instance,
there will be programs to help the therapists keep a healthy mind so the
treatment will benefit the patient.
The CMTO encourages for therapists to attend a continuous quality
improvement courses. These will maintain/improve the services that the
therapist is servicing.
