Me Before You: Macro Analysis

Me Before You is a American-British romantic sad drama film which was

adapted from the 2012 novel of the same name.

Directed by: Thea Sharrock

Produced by: Karen Rosenfelt& Alison Owen

Representations:
Age: On the movie cover it states 12A however throughout the opening scene it involves a sexual scene
which could reinforce that it is for an older age band which is of a mature collaborate

Gender: This film is not gender based however it seems to be more popular with females due to the
genre being a romance which relates to women as they are seen as more in touch with their emotions.

Also the idea of romances is that there is always a happy ending.

Social Class: Me before You is a formal movie which middle/ higher classes could relate to more. Also
the choice of costumes used throughout the movie reinforce is meant for a higher class.

Disability: Due to the main male character having a disability due to being hit by a motorbike in the
opening scene it can help disabled viewers to feel motivated as it shows a disability shouldnt get in the
way of your dreams.

Genre: Drama film/Romance- Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and
relational development of realistic characters which I look to do within my film. The
dramatic theme creates a very intriguing story which is already shown throughout the first
2 minutes of the scene. Also this is a Romantic Drama film which explores the complex side
of love. The plot of this genre usually centres on love between two people. In Romantic
Drama film can range from a family's disapproval, to forbidden love, to restraints within
relationships. Many Romantic Dramas end with happy endings which attract to womens
attention more as they are known for having their emotions more in touch with themselves
rather than men.

Narrative of the opening scene: The end of the opening scene suggests that the male
character (who has just been introduced with what it seems like his girlfriend or perhaps
wife) has just been involved in a traffic accident which sets the scene for the whole movie as
this will most defiantly intrigues the audience. As it will make viewers think what will
happen next due to the shot blackening out after the male character gets hit by the
motorbike which creates a very intriguing storyline which will be unveiled throughout the
film yet I believe that the ending will be a happy one due to the genre being a romantic
drama and normally in romance movies happy endings are very common.

Edited by John Wilson: Film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling
shots into a sequence as all these shots add up into a film. The length of the film is very long
which means the editors job takes up a lot of time as he hasnt to analysis and edit every
shot throughout the movie. As the job of an editor is not simply to mechanically put pieces
of a film together, cut off film slates (trim) and edit dialogue scenes.

Distributed by: Warner Bros.

Pictures- As the audience will find out it
is distributed by Warner Bros as the
audience will know that the film could
be of a high standard due to the
reputation the Warner Bros carry which
gives the audience reassurance that the
will be of a good quality Yet if the
opening of the movie had a company
that nobody is heard of it could make viewers think this movie could be of poor quality.
