Chinatown JKD - 1st Rank Testing Requirements

Begin testing by:


Perform the JKD salute to camera, then state your name / city / state (or country) and also tell us what
rank you are testing for (1st Rank).

L1Q1 - Foundational Qualification Techniques


Note: When recording the L1Q1, be sure to shoot the video in one continuous shot, i.e. no breaks between
each technique / explanation.

Demonstrate Bai Jong (the On-guard stance)

Explain the basics of the stance (depth / width)


Hand positioning (lead hand / arm in relation to the body)
Centerline Principle

Foundational Footwork (in isolation):


Each footwork pattern is to be repeated 3 times. Example: Lead step 3 times forward; then 3
times to the rear (backward). Step & Glide 3 times forward, then 3 times backwards.
- Lead / Rear Step
- Step & Glide
- Push Step
- Curve Right (curve to your lead hand)

Foundational Striking (in isolation):


Each technique is to be repeated 3 times. Example: the Hook 3 times, then the backfist 3 times,
followed by hammerfist strike 3 times etc.
Either you or your partner can call out the name of the technique (before each set).

Foundational Defensive Tactics (in isolation):


Each defensive technique is to be repeated 3 times. Example: 3-count Jab-Catch-Return drill 3
times; then the 3-count shoulder roll drill 3 times; followed by the sliding leverage 3 times etc.
Either you or your partner can call out the name of the technique (before each set).
- The Parry against lead straight
- The Slip & Parry against the lead straight
- Jab Catch Return 3 count drill with boxing glove
- Shoulder Roll 3-count shoulder roll drill
- Sliding leverage against the lead straight (outside the arm)

We recommend that you have someone call out the name of each combination as you progress through
these series.

Advanced Striking (in isolation):


Each technique is to be repeated 3 times. Either you or your partner can call out the name of the
technique (before each set).
The Wing Chun Blast against focus mitts. Strike in sets of 4 5 strikes
The JKD Straight Blast against focus mitts. Strike in sets of 4 - 5 strikes
The Backfist Blast against focus mitts. Strike ins ets of 4 5 strikes.

Advanced Kicking (in isolation):


Each technique is to be repeated 3 times. Either you or your partner can call out the name of the
technique (before each set).

L1Q5 Isolation Sparring


One 4 minute round
Isolation Sparring against partner where both partners use light contact using the prescribed
techniques ONLY. Please use boxing gloves, mouth guard, shin guards and head gear during this
sparring sessions.
Keep the contact LIGHT.
1st minute - Kick Sparring (use hook kick, scoop kick, thrust kick, side kick can use leg
obstruction and leg lift as defensive maneuvers)
2nd minute Hook Kick to backfist only
3rd minute Thrust kick to cross only
4th minute Lead Straight and Lead Hook Kick only.
