Title of Lesson: 21st Century Lesson Plan- Oh The Places We Will Go.

Specific Lesson Objectives (Audience, Behavior)


Students will be able to visually identify the shapes of the continents, as well as
their geographical location and relativity to the other continents using
GoogleEarth.
Students will be able to identify major geographical features and pinpoint major
landmarks on GoogleEarth.
Assessment of Student Learning (Must match specific lesson objectives)
Students will be able to identify continents and geographical landmarks on maps,
and be able to search specific locations using its coordinates.
Students will be able to describe the different land features and identify an
example using GoogleEarth.
Differentiation to Meet the Needs of All Students (Must include SPED, Gifted, and
ELL)
SpEd: Students will work directly with the aid in a small group setting. Students will
speak their questions and answers to the aid and she will write them on them down
herself. These students will also have lesson vocabulary words to fill in on the activity
sheet.
TWIRL/V:
Talk: The students will talk to their neighbors during small and whole group.
Write: The students will write on their map sheet creating a legend/key.
Investigate: Students will investigate other continents and countries geographical
locations, studying their climate, culture, and physical coordinates.
Read: Students will read about Christopher Columbus and Cartography.
Listen: The students will listen to the teacher explain the meaning of the vocabulary
words. The students will also listen to the teacher model asking and answering
questions while reading, and how to identify major geographical landmarks. The
students will also listen to one another during small group and whole group discussion.
View: The students will view the vocabulary power point the teacher made, as well as
explore GoogleEarth website.

Motivation/Schema/Prior Knowledge/Background Building

The teacher will engage students by displaying an image of our school from
GoogleEarth.
Lesson Summary
View images of our school and discuss the technological advancements in
science, and how that has enriched our understanding of the world around our
learning experiences and us. Using GoogleEarth helps students understand
location on a local as well as global scale. View Vocabulary PowerPoint defining
geographical terms and features to help students better understand our reading.
Analyze a short story on Cartography (map-making). Students will label
continents using a color-coded legend, in a collaborative group effort. All
members of each group will have to pin a country on GoogleEarth; this will be
used for summative assessment

Internet access to GoogleEarth; enough iPads for 5 groups to use
Colored pencils
