SS5H4: The student will describe U.S. involvement in World War I and post-World War I America.
b.) Describe the cultural developments and individual contributions in the 1920s of the Jazz Age (Louis Armstrong), the Harlem
Renaissance (Langston Hughes), baseball (Babe Ruth), the automobile (Henry Ford), and the airplane (Charles Lindbergh).

Brief Description of Learning Experience:
This project will be introduced to students at the beginning of their unit of cultural developments and individual contributions in
the 1920s. Students will choose one of the five individuals (with the exception of Louis Armstrong) to create their own movie.
This is a project that is intended to take the time length of the unit, so roughly 1.5-2 weeks.
The videos will be posted on our class blog for parents to view, as well as any students that wish to view the movies again. The
audience that will use and care about the movies the students are creating are the other 5th grade classes of the school, 5th grade
classes from other schools, parents of the students, and classmates. The teacher will administer assessment of this project, as well
as provide feedback to students about their work. The video should include still images, one video clip, at least one source of
audio, and a title and credits slide.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:
Students will reach a LoTi level 4 with this project. The students will have voice and choice of creating a movie on the Harlem
Renaissance (Langston Hughes, baseball (Babe Ruth), the automobile (Henry Ford), and the airplane (Charles Lindbergh). The
content students create will be high quality and will provide a meaningful learning experience that can be shared with their peers
inside of the class, as well as students and parents outside of the class that have access to our class blog.

Importance of technology:
Using multimedia authoring tools are critical for this project because without them, students would not be able to create a movie
using the Windows Movie Maker program. Without the authoring tools, students would not be able to post their final products
online to share with others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Publishing student work online has the potential to create possible issues with their students safety and privacy. I will minimize
those risks as much as possible by never including a students full name; I will always either use the students first name and last
name initial, or a pseudonym. Only work done by students that have brought back a form signed from their parents allowing their
work to be published online on our class blog will be posted.
