The article under consideration is taken from book called book
Big Data Principles and Best Practices of Scalable Realtime
Data Systems written by Nathan Marz. The article presents the full theory behind creating an effectiveworking speed layer. It also touches the CAP theorem problem and gives a valuable information about challenges of incremental computation. In the 1st part the author presents a brief summary of the article. Part 2 contains information about common properties of computing for the realtime view. Part 3 centers around basic principles of storing the data for the realtime view. In the 4th part the author offers the solution for incremental computation problems. The author gives detailed information about CAP theorem applicability for using in speed layer computation in the part 5. Part 6 centers around four main requirements for the speed layer database. Part 7 contains a comparison of the speed layer solution with another types of solutions. To sum up authors aggregates fundamental concepts of the speed layer computation in the Lambda Architecture. The results of study suggest that system created by using speed layer computation is very different from the batch and serving layer computation, but despite that fact, that speed layer computation demand more complex incremental algorithms, you still can keep the speed layer small and manageable.
