Annual Policy Review

Starting each fiscal year, we reassess our corporate security policies. This process allows us to
adjust our security procedure to help combat potential network threats. Previous adjustments
reduced our risk for compromise, but more security means less accommodating systems for users
and can lead to loss of productivity. Our goal is to determine if an increase in monitoring
network devices would have a positive outcome. We have identified our goal, defined the major
tasks, and created a project calendar. This memo is a summary of the decisions we made and a
layout of our work plan
Project Mission
Our mission: The purpose of this project is to determine if an increase to monitoring all network
devices, corporate and personal, will provide a more secure network with limited interruption to
the current work environment.
Project Plan
To accomplish our mission, we have created the following plan.
Action One: Assess current network policy
Brian Barton will obtain the current copy of our network policy, he and Nicolas Downs will
gather relevant articles to device monitoring. This will act as a reference point for further actions.
Action Two: Establish argument advocating the increase in network monitoring
Nicolas Downs will develop an argument for advocating the increase network monitoring to be
presented to project members. This argument should include both pros and cons to the increase
in monitor all devices with our network.
Action Three: Establish argument discouraging the increase in network monitoring
Brian Barton will create the argument discouraging the increase in network monitoring to be
presented to project members. Brian will focus on the negative impacts a stricter network policy
would be to current work.
Action Four: Synthesize results into presentation
Brian and Nicolas will present their finding to the project team and make a decision on whether
we should increase our network monitoring, keep it the way it is, or reduce monitoring. With a
decision made, the project team will create a ten-minute presentation.

Action Five: Give presentation to chief-level executives

The project team will deliver their findings in a board room meeting with all department chiefs.
If the desired result is an increase or a decrease in the monitor of network devices, a new project
team will be created to carry out the intended result.
