Connection to Loyola

For this assignment, I decided to interview my English professor Lyle Enright. I chose to
interview him because he has a unique perspective as someone who is both teaching a class and
currently working towards getting his doctorate. During our conversation, Professor Enright
stressed that he thinks having a well-rounded education is very important. He also mentioned
that this is one of his biggest challenges as a professor, saying that it can be difficult to make
English seem important to someone who is a business or science major. In his English class, he
tries to teach in such a way that students from all majors can take something from his course. As
one of his students, I appreciate that he makes the effort to make the subject matter relevant to all
people. He also mentioned that his favorite part of his experience here was his own professional
development. As someone who is simultaneously learning and teaching others, he appreciates
that the staff here are committed to providing an education that is well-rounded.
I was also drawn to Loyola because of the emphasis on exposing students to a variety of
different perspectives throughout their time here. Although my majors are English and Latin, I
still learn valuable information from science and math classes. To me, becoming an educated
person means understanding how different disciplines understand the world. Once I understand
that, I can form my own views and opinions by drawing from the various perspectives that I am
exposed to.
After having this conversation with Professor Enright, I better understand how the faculty
incorporates the mission into the way they teach. I have a stronger appreciation for my professors

and the work they do. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to go to a school that has such a
unified vision for its students, and I plan to make the most of my time here.
