(D-9) Objective: To determine how the school is structured to meet and assess the literacy
needs of students.
Directions: Interview the principal, assistant principal, literacy specialist, or curriculum literacy
lead. The questions below are guidelines; you may use them or use your own.
1. What guidelines are in place to meet the literacy needs of students?
-Our literacy frame work, RTI, centers, intervention support
2. How is it determined that the guidelines are effective for students?
-By using data to see if kids are at grade level or growing in problem area.
3. What happens if the guidelines are not effective?
-

They are effective. We take them through mtss process when they seem to noit be
showing improvement.

4. What would you suggest beginning teachers to do to help them become a better
reading teacher?
-

I would say read about best practice, observe master teacher, attend professional
development, and include reading in all other subjects.

5. Are parents involved in the process? Explain.


-We ask parents to practice with their kids and ask that they complete reading logs
with their kids and support.
6. What systems of support do beginning teachers receive for literacy instruction?

They have mentors and onsite regular training and development. We also have
them visit other classrooms.

7. What are the reading instruction mandates from the school, district, state or federal
programs implemented within your school?
-

M class / reading 3d because of the read to achieve law.
