ABSTRACT

Micro-controllers are the major things that are being used. It has reached to a
level that without them no work can be done. Embedded technology exists in every
aspects of modern life and there are many examples of their use considering the
vast scope and such high usage of embedded systems in multiple
industries, there has been a huge demand for professionals undergone embedded
system training. In fact with the growing usage of embedded technology in IT
segment today, the demand for people who have taken embedded system training
or network security training is on a rise. This technology is used a lot in
automotives like cars and airplanes. Now it is being used in bikes. Generally a lot
of people are filled with tensions which are resulting in health problems for them.
One of them is with the bike keys. They don’t keep them at a particular place and
feel tensed about it. So for a kind of relaxation an application of embedded system
namely “Digital Bike Operating System” is implemented. In this project no key is
used for the bike. It is a secondary usage. The primary usage is with a password.
The owner of the bike can feel relaxed. With this technology, theft of bikes will be
very less. In the following topics we will see the functioning of this project. The
research for this is completed successfully in ‘New York Research Institute’. It is
going to reach the people very quickly. Let’s hope for the best from the people.
Embedded System

Definition:

An embedded system is a type of electronic system that uses a

microprocessor to function.

Introduction:

Embedded systems are meant to perform some specific task, rather

than be a general-purpose computer for multiple tasks. This helps in improving
real-time performance constraints that must be met by latest technologies.
Embedded systems are not always standalone devices, in fact they comprise of
small, computerized parts within a larger device that serves a more general
purpose.

Nowadays there is a huge demand for embedded system in various sectors such as
automobile, telecommunications, medical, consumer electronics, aviation, space
exploration and lots more. Even there are various consumer products where one
can find the usage of embedded technology. Some of such products are DVD
players, MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras, video game consoles, mobile phones
and many more. Even household appliances such as washing machines, microwave
ovens and dishwashers are designed with embedded technology. Embedded
systems range from portable devices such as digital watches and music players, to
large devices and machineries like factory controllers and giant display boards that
we see on airports.

Millions of products use some form of embedded software for developing it. Right
from home appliances, automobiles, wireless devices to consumer electronics
devices; embedded technology is used in a large scale. Students having embedded
system training can look for jobs in software development, design and manufacture
and even re-engineering of new and existing reference designs, development of
device drivers, wired and wireless stacks and even porting of network protocols.

Embedded systems range from no user interface at all - dedicated only to one task
to full user interfaces similar to desktop OS in devices such as PDAs and mobile
phones. If you have used any of the modern electronic devices then you must be
familiar with the rich graphic displays that guide you or let you choose various
options to control the operation of the device.

Although the demand for processing capability in embedded systems is increasing,

traditional 8bit MCU is still the mainstream product in low-cost applications.
Atmel Corp., Microchip Technology Inc., Infineon Technologies AG, RDC
Semiconductor Co. Ltd, Epson and other companies will feature their respective
MCU products.

Micro Controllers for Embedded System:

Microcontroller and embedded system combined can be called as

‘Embedded Controller’. An embedded controller is a controller that is embedded
into some device for some purpose other than to provide general purpose
computing.

A common example of a general purpose computer would be a typical PC

clone. The x86 processor in this machine can't really be considered an
embedded controller, since the machine is typically used for general purpose
computing. However, what is general purpose computing? Take this same PC
clone, turn it into a multi-media machine, and voila! You have an appliance -
much on the order of a microwave oven or television. Is the x86 processor now
considered an embedded controller or, is the PC clone itself now considered an
embedded controller, controlling the multi-media peripherals? The answer is
yes.

Choosing a Microcontroller:
There are four major 8-bit microcontrollers. They are Motorola’s 6811, Intel’s
8051, Zilog’s Z8 and PIC 16X from microchip technology. Each microcontroller
has a unique instruction set and registry set, so they are different from each other.
There are also some other microcontrollers like Motorola 68EC300, Intel 386 EX
and IBM PowerPC 403GB, but these chips are called super-microcontrollers. They
are different from the above mentioned ones in many ways. As there are many
kinds of microcontrollers the main criteria’s for choosing microcontrollers are as
follows:

1. Meeting the needs.

2. Availability of software development tools

3. Wide availability and reliable sources of microcontrollers.

“DIGITAL BIKE OPERATING SYSTEM SANS KEY”

Introduction:

The main feature of this project is that all works of a bike like starting
and locking the bike, fuel flow, etc are done using a automatically by pressing few
buttons.

Objectives:

Each and every person due to his works puts his bike keys in some or
the other location. If he knows where he has kept it then not a problem, but when
he is in a serious hurry then he can’t just keep checking for them and be late for the
work he is about to go, sometimes some forget to lock their bikes, which may
result in theft and even sometimes some may forget to on the petrol knob which
may result in the bike stopping somewhere in the middle of the traffic. So this
technology is implemented in which all the works can be done using this project.

PASSWORD CHANGE INDICATOR; L/U - LOCK/UNLOCK To start the
bike a 4-digit password has to be entered in the keypad.
PASSWORD REGISTRATION:
On show room condition no passwords will be stored in the bike & hence at
this condition any one can operate the bike. To register a password, first press the
L/U button & then enter a 4 -digit password. After doing this a green light will
glow this indicates that the entered password has been stored successfully. After
getting the green signal press the L/U button.

STARTING OF THE BIKE:

To start the Bike, first press the L/U button & then enter the password. If the
entered password is correct, you will get one beep and a green signal. Then press
the L/U button. (A keypad is provided along with the Speedometer for this
purpose. This setup is given above). After the acceptance of the password (i.e. after
pressing the L/U button) there are 3 operating modes available. They are Ride
mode, Hold mode & Lock mode.

RIDE MODE: (The ignition circuit gets connected, bike lock gets opened & also
the petrol starts flowing to the engine)

HOLD MODE: (The engine is stopped for purposes like in traffic signal it is
unnecessary to hold the bike in on condition till we get the signal. After getting the
signal or thereafter whenever we wish we can restart the bike by simply kicking
the kicker)

LOCK MODE: (The ignition circuit gets disconnected, bike is locked, petrol flow
is stopped & also the password gets locked)

Note: After selecting the lock mode, the bike can be restarted only by
entering the password.

For each mode a button is provided. By pressing the button the

corresponding actions, which is given inside the brackets will take place
automatically.

TANK SWITCH: (By pressing this button the tank cap gets opened automatic
ally. After fuelling the tank you can close it by simply pressing the cap
downwards)

MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Solenoids are used for bike lock and fuel flow control. For bike lock
push/pull type solenoid is used. For fuel control 3/8 inch, normally closed type
solenoid is used.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

1. THEFT PROOF:
An alarm, which is fixed in the bike, starts louding & at the same time it will
be indicated to us by the remote on these conditions.

If anyone enters wrong password more than 3 times

If any one of the wire related to the bike control is cut down

The security alarm can be switched off only by entering the correct password or by
pressing the security alarm stop button in the remote.
2. PASSWORD CHAINGINGS
For changing the password, press the L/U button & enter the secret code number
(Secret code- each bike will have a different secret code which is used to change
the password & this secret code will be set by the manufacturer). Now the existing
password will be erased & the password change light indicator in the keypad will
indicate it. Now enter the new password. Then the password change light in the
keypad goes off which indicates that the new password has been stored
successfully. After getting the green signal press the L/U button.

3. BATTERY POWER INDICATOR:

This system works with 12v battery. A red light glows whenever the battery goes
down below 11v & immediately this system draws power from an additional
battery provided. However it is mandatory to recharge the main battery within two
days whenever you get the battery low indication. The battery low indicator will
go off only after recharging the main battery.

ADVANTAGES:
Theft proof Key less entry Low cost.
This remote has an internal antenna, which transmits signals to the base unit in the
bike when a button is pressed & also receives signal from the base unit.
It has an inbuilt speaker, which sounds when signal is received from base unit.
CONCLUSION
This project enables the bike owner to enjoy the Digital technology in bike
and also it makes the owner f eel free from theft fear complex.
