"Pretty as a Princess: Longitudinal Effects of Engagement with Disney Princesses on
Gender Stereotypes, Body Esteem, and Prosocial Behavior in Children." Child
Development, 87.6 (2016): 1909-1925. This article discusses a study in which it tested the
affect of Disney Princess films as well as the toy preferences towards the children on
gender stereotypical behavior as well as their body esteem as theyre growing up. I found
this study by searching Disney Stereotypes using the One Search engine in the CSUN
Oviatt Library. This article is peer reviewed and was published in a Child Development
book, making it trustworthy and demonstrating it is academically reliable. This article is
relevant to my topic and will help me when writing my essay because it provides
statistics and examples regarding body esteem and supports when I connect it to how the
physical appearance in Disney Princesses contribute to these young children. This article
is beneficial to me because it provides a variety of hypothesis and statistics in which they
examined their study on Disney Princess products and its affects.

the Disney Princess movies are safe when in reality the have a long-term impact and

continues onto more research relating to the study in Child Development. I found this
study using google search engine and searched Disney Princess Stereotypes and went
through the different results. This particular article is credible because it is a continuing
article study from one of my other sources on Child Development and has been published
on Science related studies. This article discussion from Jon Mcbride will be useful for
me research essay because it provides percentages and statistics between girls and boys
and its affect towards each gender that will allow me to connect it to the interactions
these films have on children that most people arent aware of as well as the harms it
portrays.

the influences it has on us and this article discusses 5 of the most common Disney
movies, Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and The
Seven Dwarfs, and Sleeping Beauty. It is a short article but explains in each movie the
gender roles and how they represent this stereotypical ideal. I found this argument using
Google search engine and inserting Gender Roles portrayed in Disney Movies. This
source is from a West Chester university Student, so I know it is reliable and can be used
onto a research paper. This article will be useful for my essay because it provides useful
content on particular Disney movies and allows me to discuss particular characters who
exemplify stereotypical ideas.

adverse view towards adults. I found this article on the CSUN Oviatt Library one search
and filtering to topics regarding stereotypes and Walt Disney Co. in the search results.
This source is a peer reviewed article and is published in Journal of Aging Studies, so I
knew it was reliable for an academic research essay. This particular article will be useful
for my essay report because it discusses the issue of how these Disney films manifest a
negative view to children towards adults and will allow me to provided cited work of
how these films that are passed along from parents to their children affect the attitude
towards their superiors.

characters that are in the Disney films dont necessarily coincide with what they look like

and looking through the different results. This article is posted on the worlds largest
professional website and was written by a reading intervention specialist in Santa Clara
Unified, so I knew it was both professionally trustworthy and as well as academic. This
article will be useful in challenging my essay by explaining the Disney Princesses who
portray gender stereotypes and connecting Stavis points on particular Disney films who
challenge this ideal.

release the negative stereotype of gender roles placed within these characters. I found this
article using the Google search engine and searched for Gender Stereotypes in Disney
Movies. It is a published article in Live Science under Human Nature and so I knew it
was trustworthy since it deals with relating the movies to human nature. This article will
be useful for my essay because it provides clear point that are from both sides of the
argument and allows me to cite examples that connect to how Princes and Princesses
characters are portraying gender roles society has conformed to.
