1. Objective(s):

Student will create an electronic picture book displaying the correlation between their
personal narratives that they wrote, by following two-step directions.

2. Colorado Academic Standards: What Colorado State Academic Standards will this
lesson cover? Include the content area(s), standard, substandard, and evidence outcomes.
Include ONLY the standards, sub-standards, and evidence outcomes that you will actually
focus on in this lesson.
And ISTE (Technology Standards for Students), as appropriate.

Content Area: Reading, Writing, and Communicating

Standard: 1. Oral Expression and Listening
Grade Level Expectation: First Grade
Concepts and skills students master:
1. Multiple strategies develop and expand oral vocabulary
Evidence Outcomes
Students can:
b.
Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas,
thoughts, and feelings. (CCSS: SL.1.)
d.

Give and follow simple two-step directions.

ISTE STANDARDS:

3. Learning Target(s): What objective(s) you will post on the board in student-friendly
language? This should be a specific task you want them to be able to perform at the end of
the class, such as, incorporating an academic content/skill along with a particular technology
use.
I can use 5 picture/scenes to describe my personal narrative.
I can use the Technology mystorybook to display as a visual aid to explain my personal
narrative
4. Assessment: How will you know the extent to which students have met the learning
target? What will they DO to SHOW they have met it? Use formative and/or summative
assessments.
Include a rubric for technology artifacts as is appropriate.
I will assess the students by walking around checking off what part of their personal narrative
they have already created. I will be assessing the student when participating in the think pair
share when engaging and contributing to discussion. I will also assess the students by when
they are finishing each page I will go by and check it off of their list. Formative
assessmet/summative assessment of the writing piece.

Key Vocabulary: What key TECHNOLOGY and other vocabulary words are being introduced or
reviewed during the lesson?
-Title Page
-First
-Second
-Last
-Conclusion

Prerequisite Technology Skills: What technology knowledge and skills do students need to
know BEFORE the lesson in order to be successful?
I would have introduced the program to the students prior to my lesson, and I will go through
it when were are as a whole class to go over and review some of the features that the
mystorybook has to offer.

5. Materials: What materials are needed for the lesson? Provide all handouts, graphic
organizers, websites, Power Points, video clips, etc. Cite your sources as needed.
-Graphic Organizer
-Mapping of the pictures they will be using
-Computer
-My storybook website

6. Introduction/Anticipatory Set: How will you grab the students attention or relate the
experiences of the students to the objectives of the lesson? (Activate prior knowledge,
establish relevance, show a striking visual, engage them in a brief experiential exercise, etc.)
Today we are going to map out our personal narratives. Since you all have done the writing
component of your personal narratives we are now going to use a program called
mystorybook to create your visuals on the Computer! I want you to experiment with this new
software as well as following along with what I am showing you on the screen.

7. Essential Questions or Big Picture Statement:

Today we will be working on creating pictures through technology to connect with our
personal narratives. I want you to explore with some of the pictures that the computer offers,
and to bring your personal narratives to life!

Technology Lesson Refection

I chose this Technology activity because my CT and I had talked about ways that we
could engage the students to use technology so they would be able to create something. We
talked about how somethings that are on the computer might be challenging for those students
that arent too familiar with the desktop. Beth and I talked about a technology that will be easy
navigation and we could tie it into our writing lesson. One of the first things that came to mind
was my tech teach lesson mystorybook. One of the things that Beth had mentioned that she
wanted to learn more about in the technology survey that she took was that she mostly used
educational technologies such as razkids, math games, and pearsonweb and capstone. Although
those are very good resources to use when working with first graders on all levels of learning,
but, I wanted to give Beth an idea of other ways that she can use technology in the classroom. It
was a different way of showing Beth other technology websites that are out there for the students
based on creation! It was great that I was able to tie this in with their personal narrative writing
pieces. I believe that I offered just the right amount of modifications for the students so that they
will be able to engage and be curious learners when learning how to navigate, but also not
struggle too much so they were still able to accomplish the task in a timely matter. Some of the
modifications included logging onto the computer for them and opening up the program to a
new book to create. Having them create a picture book to display their words, and to not
having the students type up their whole personal narrative but to rather just express their writing
in picture form using technology. I strongly think that the students as well as my CT got a new
outlook on technology and ways of using this in the classroom that is KID FRIENDLY!
Adjusting/modifying technologies will always be an option for teachers to do when working with
the younger grade levels. Just because students are younger doesnt mean that they have less

resources for creation when using technologies, it just means that you might need to modify it to
accommodate for their computer ability.
