Chapter 2

METHOD
This chapter presents the methods and procedures employed in
the study that includes the research design, research subject, research
instrument, data gathering procedure, statistical treatment of data,
and other information.
Research Design
This study will utilize quantitative research design employing
descriptive correlation-method. It is a method where two or more
quantitative variables are determined for significant relationship
(Hidalgo, 2014). This method is appropriate to examine the relationship
between Health Habits and Life Satisfaction among House Hold
Members of Davao Timber Corporation (DATICOR).
Research Subject
This study will be conducted to determine the health habits and
life

satisfaction

among

household

members

of

DATICOR.

The

researcher will choose the household members in (DATICOR) to be the

respondents of the study. The investigation will take place on the first
semester of the school year 2016-2017 at DATICOR.
The researcher will use the purposive and universal technique,
which is about identifying and selecting individuals or groups that are

knowledgeable

or

experienced

with

phenomenon

of

interest

(Cresswell & Plano 2013).

Research Instruments
Two sets of assessment tools will be used in gathering data from
the respondents. The first instrument is the adopted questionnaire on
health habits which will be the independent variable. The second
element is the life-satisfaction scale that serves to be as the
dependent variable. It will be modified and validated by panel of
experts for suitability to the study.
Healthy

Lifestyle

Questionnaire.

Developed

by,

Darviri

(2014) this questionnaire consists of five indicators: dietary healthy

choices (with 7 questions); dietary harm avoidance (with 4 questions);
daily routine (with 8 questions); organized physical exercise (with 2
questions); social and mental balance (with 5 questions) which sums
up to 26 items. It will go through modification and validation by panel
of experts to suit the purpose of the study.
The respondents will be instructed to indicate the level of health
habits by putting a check to the numbers on which they believe to be
appropriate descriptions of what they possess.

The mean of the responses of the respondents using this

instrument will be analyzed and interpreted as follows:

Life-Satisfaction Questionnaire.

This was developed by,

Czech Republic (2012) which consists of 8 indicators: personality (with

7 questions);

health

(with

questions);

free

time

(with

questions); marriage and partnership (with 7 questions); relation to

children (with 7 questions); financial situation (with 4 questions);
housing situation (with 8 questions); and friends and family (with 5
questions) that sums up to 47 items all in all. It will go through
modification and validation by panel of experts to suit the purpose of
the study.
In determining the level of life-satisfaction of the respondents,
the mean scores will be computed and analyzed using the 7-Point
Likert Scale:

Date Gathering Procedure

In conducting this study, the following steps below will be
observed by the researcher:
Seeking permission to conduct study. After the instrument
had been validated and prepared for conducting, the researcher wrote
a letter to the Director for Instruction requesting that the researcher
hopefully be allowed to conduct the study.
Administration

of

instrument.

Following

the

vacant

schedules of the respondents, distribution of questionnaire using the

adopted and validated questionnaires will be conducted. The retrieval

of the results will be done right after the respondents were done
answering the questionnaire.
Collecting and subjecting the data to statistical analysis.
The responses to the items of the questionnaires by the respondents
will be accurately tallied and recorded correspondingly. The results will
be encoded, tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted to give essence to
the factual investigation.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The garnered data will be analyzed and interpreted using the
appropriate statistical treatment as follows:
Mean. This will be used to determine the level of health habits
and level of life-satisfaction among household members in Davao
Timber Corporation (DATICOR).
Pearson product moment correlation of coefficient. This
will be utilized to determine the significant relationship between the
level of emotional regulation and music performance among studentmusicians in private-public secondary schools.
