SHORT CIRCUIT CALCULATION

Examined network, initial state before fault
Fig 1. Before fault the G generator is excited to the nominal voltage, connected to the N network
trough the T transformer and L line. Stator current of the generator, the current of transformer and
line are equal to zero (no load condition). The N network bus is characterized by S three phase
short circuit power (referring to the B N line outage).
The network elements are loss-less, generators star point is ungrounded. At 20 kV level (Variant
1.) the transformers higher voltage side and the eqiuvalent N network star points are
ungrounded, on 120, 220, 400 kV level (variants 2., 3. s 4.) the transformer and the network star
points are grounded by zero impedance.
Data are given in tables 1.a and 1.b.
Type of faults, problems to solve
Faulted bus is B. For the given faults (signed at last row of table 1.b)
calculate:
a) faulted bus (B) phase currents
b) faulted bus (B) phase voltages and line-to-line voltages
c) L line phase currents
d) T transformer phase currents directed to the faulted (B) bus
e) N bus phase voltages and line-to-line voltages
f) G generator stator currents
g) Bus A (generator outlet) phase voltages and line-to-line voltages
During the fault the generator internal E1G source voltage and the equivalent network internal E1H
source voltage remain constant.
In the table 1.b S3L means three phase short circuit power in case of N network, in other cases
(generator, transformer) means nominal three phase apparent power. Vn nominal line-to-line
voltage, VN the network bus line-to-line voltage. At row of connection d means delta, Y
means star connection.
Instruction and documentation
Use per units for calculations, base values : generator nominal power and voltage.
Results must given in dimesioned values too.
Show the calculation details, use the equation - numerical substitution - result clearly
documented form.
Draw phasor diagrams of values a) g) points above based on calculated results both of two
types of fault.
The results must summerized on result-sheet too (One sheet one type of fault).
Documentation must contain
- This data sheet
- Calculation details in per units and results in dimensioned values as well.
- Summerized result in result sheets both of two types of fault.
- Phasor diagrams of a) g) values both of two types of fault.
The homework must hand in well arranged in a folder.
