Chapter 2
Methodology

This study will cover the head office of Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc.
located at H.V. Dela Costa, Makati, Philippines and the study will cover a period of one month.
The said company is a joint venture between CRH (a leading building materials company based
in Ireland) and Aboitiz, making the company satisfy one requirement of this research that the
company chosen must be a multinational company.

The subjects of this study are the supervisors of the company chosen for this study
(Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc.). The Qualitative Interview research methodology
will be utilized for this study through one-on-one interviews with the employees of Republic
Cement & Building Materials Inc. on their perception on how effective their companys
management is when it comes to leading the company through environmental sustainability.

A Qualitative method of data gathering is conducted through interview of supervisors

from Republic cement. This can lead the researchers towards discovery of the how the
management leads the company through environmental sustainability and its perceived
effectiveness by the employees. As a measurement for perceptions, the interview will be done
with the employees individually in order to get direct and more personal responses.
Research Design

Instrumentation
An interview guide composed of essential parts that would lead to acquiring sufficient
data regarding the ongoing environmental leadership within the company is used. Informants
will receive introductory information about the scope and purpose of the interview. It will also
depend on whether the informant belongs to the managerial level or a regular employee of the
company. First part is the basic sociodemographic characteristics, which is composed of
information such as sex, age, highest education attainment, position in the company, and length
of tenure. Second is the recognition of environment leadership, whether its presence is known by
the employees and to what extent. Part of this is the level of knowledge on its components and
implementation. Next part is the execution of environment leadership. Cooperative behavior by
employees, as well as actions, strategies, and ways of implementation done by supervisors to
ensure its presence within company operations are covered. The third part goes on to the
perceived effectiveness of the environment leadership. This part will rely heavily on answers
given by regular employees. The recognized impacts of environmental leadership in reaching
corporate goals and general sustainability is sought. To gather more in-depth data, the fourth part
will discover the various factors involved in environment leadership such as employee relations,
characteristics of office setting, hindrances, challenges, and other office dynamics.

Data Analysis
Distinct comparison will be made between the answers of the employees and supervisors
from the interview.First of all, there will be a consistency check. The researchers will depend
upon the level of similarity between answers of informants for the validity of data. The
coherency between the value given to environment leadership by the managers and lower level

employees will also be analyzed. The connection between the variables of the research will also
be verified through data gathered from the interview.

Methodological Limitation
As much as highly relevant and accurate data are needed to set the track for this research,
there are other factors that might alter the reliability. The time and place for the conduction of the
interview have effects on the data disclosed by the informants. The researchers are subjected to
conducting the interview at an agreeable time and available place. The focus and points gathered
in the interview doesnt extend outside the periphery of the company and the external
implications of its environmental leadership. The methodological process doesnt include
materials and documentation that would prove the validity of information gathered through
interview regarding environmental leadership and its actual existence within the office setting.
