ABSTRACT
MANILA, Philippines The entry of new oil companies and the expansion of existing industry
players in the past five years have eroded the market share of the countrys top three major oil
firms, Department of Energy (DOE) data showed.
The three major oil players namely Petron Corp., Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and Chevron
Phils. cornered 60.3 percent of total demand as of end-2015, while other industry players
captured 39.7 percent of the market, latest DOE data showed.
1. PETRON CORPORATION
Petron Corporation is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines and also
the 3rd largest player in the Malaysian Retail market. Petron is supplying nearly 40% of the
country's oil requirements - the company's world-class products and quality services fueling the
lives of millions of Filipinos. Petrons vision is to be the leading provider of total customer
solutions
in
the
energy
sector
and
its
derivative
businesses.
The company operates a refinery in Limay, Bataan, with a rated capacity of 180,000 barrels a
day. The plants ISO-14001-certified refinery processes crude oil into full range of petroleum
products including LPG, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene, industrial fuel oil, solvents, asphalts,
and the petrochemical feedstocks-mixed xylene and propylene. From the refinery, Petron
products are transported mainly by sea to the companys 32 depots and terminal throughout the
country.
Through this nationwide network, Petron supplies fuel oil, diesel, and LPG to various industrial
customers. The power sector is the companys largest customer, also supplying jet fuel at key
airports
to
international
and
domestic
carriers.
Through its approximately 2,225 service stations in the Philippines and around 575 service
stations in Malaysia as of June 30, 2016, the company retails gasoline, diesel, and kerosene to
motorists and public transport operators, selling its LPG brand, Gasul, to household and other
consumers through extensive dealership network. Petroleum products, coming from our
refineries, are also shipped to our network of storage terminals, with about 30 in the Philippines
and

in
Malaysia.

Petron operates a world-class lube oil blending plant at its Pandacan Terminal, where it
manufactures lubes and greases.

2.PILIPINAS SHELL PETROLEUM CORPORATION


Pilipinas Shell traces its roots to Asiatic Petroleum Company (Philippine Islands), Ltd.
which opened for business in the Philippines and began to import and sell motor gasoline and
kerosene in 1914. Asiatic Petroleum Company (Philippine Islands) Ltd. was renamed The Shell
Company of the Philippine Islands, Ltd. in the 1940s.
In 1959, Pilipinas Shell was incorporated under the name The Shell Refining Company
(Philippines), Inc. in compliance with the then required percentage of Filipino ownership (25%)
in large industrial ventures. In 1970, Pilipinas Shell was renamed Shell Philippines, Inc. and was
later renamed Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation in 1973.
In 1976, Meralco Securities Corporation acquired 25% stake in the Company resulting in
the Company being 50% owned.
In February 1987, the Filipino ownership in the Company decreased to 33.33% after a
share buyback by the Company of Meralco Securities Corporations stake in the Company. In
August 2015, the Filipino ownership in the Company decreased to 31.82% following the
issuance of additional shares pursuant to a stock rights offering.

3.CHEVRON CORPORATION
Chevron is one of the largest investors in the Philippines, with more than $2 billion in
capital investments. They market Caltex fuels, lubricants and other petroleum products. Their
network of service stations, terminals and sales offices forms the backbone of our presence in the
Philippines.
Chevron holds an interest in the Malampaya gas-to-power project, the first natural gas
development and largest industrial project in the Philippines. From the Philippines, they provide
operational support for Chevron offices on five continents. The workforce supplies
transactional, processing and consulting services in areas ranging from finance to information
technology.
Chevron has nearly 700 Caltex service stations in the Philippines. We sell a range of
petroleum products, including Caltex with Techron gasoline, Caltex Diesel with Techron D,
kerosene and jet fuel. Chevron has 20 supply facilities in the Philippines, including major
terminals and depots. Our import terminal in San Pascual, Batangas, forms the hub of our
transportation and supply operations in the Philippines. Chevron also provides jet fuel for airlines
at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Chevron also markets Delo and Havoline lubricants and
coolants, along with other lubricating oils and greases, through distributors to consumer,
commercial and industrial customers.

Oil monitoring done by the Department of Energy (DOE) showed diesel prices ranged
from P23.80 to P27.47 per liter and gasoline prices from P36.85 to P42.45 per liter for the week.
