EC-Series Analyzer
The EC-Series Analyzer is a multi-frequency impedance tester for
battery monitoring (Any chemistry ranging from 5Ah to 2000Ah up to
18V. The battery should be fully charged for reliable diagnosis).
The EC-Series Analyzer operates in two test modes:
String Test Use for battery monitoring.
Quick Test To quickly assess battery conditions without data
tracking.
The EC-Series Analyzer comes with an Autobaseline Feature that
removes the need for the user to determine baseline values. It also
corrects impedance with temperature.
Based on the customizable configuration, the EC-Series Analyzer
reports:
Single frequency impedance.
Battery voltage.
Battery Chemical Properties (CELScan).
The EC-Series Analyzer interfaces with IBMS (Intelligent Battery
Management System) for transferring configurations and test results
and performing firmware update.
Page 6
IBMS
IBMS is the companion software of the EC-Series Analyzers for creating
Configurations, reviewing Test Results and performing firmware upgrade.
IBMS is based on interacting with a Nexus Database Server for data logging.
IBMS can run as a standalone application or as an enterprise solution with a
common database shared between multiple IBMS installations.
IBMS can be downloaded free of charge from GEI webstore at:
http://www.globalei.com/bms/software-firmware/ibms-companion-software-free-download.html.

Servicing and
Troubleshooting
The EC-Series Analyzer indicates Internal Board Failure when the unit fails
auto-calibration or testing routine.
Hardware failure can be categorized in three categories:
Level 1 Board Component failure. Repair should be done at GEI.
Level 2 Board replacements. The entire board is replaced at the
distribution center and the defective hardware is sent to GEI.
Level 3- Accessories Replacements or Repairs. Broken or Defective
accessories can be serviced at the distribution center.

Quick Test / String Test
Quick Test is used for making measurement on the fly without keeping track
of the results. Basic test (Impedance or Voltage measurement) can be done
but more elaborated test can be developed.
String Test is used for Battery Monitoring where the test results are tracked.
A string test requires first a string configuration.

Before creating String Configurations, you need to create your own structure for
Company, Region and Site.
To create Company and Region, go in the Test Configuration Templates section:

Sites are created when setting String Configuration
You can now create String Configuration in the defined site for performing String Test.

Use of Templates is optional but greatly facilitate setting up

String Test
To test a String, a String Configuration needs
to be created first. This creates the last data
identifying component (String).
String Tests are performed according to a
String Configuration and the corresponding
String Test Results can reviewed in the ECSeries Analyzer or transferred to IBMS.

The String Configuration contains the necessary information for the Analyzer
to perform String Test and to save the corresponding Test Results in the
internal database.
Optional information such as battery manufacturing and installation dates can
be entered to improve battery management.
Page 36
Page 37
Test String
String Test can only be performed on String associated to a String Configuration.
From the main Menu, select Test String and then navigate to select the String to be
tested.
At the Start Testing screen, enter the Test Temperature and start the Test Session by
pressing F2.
Page 38
Autobaseline Function
The Analyzer comes with a dedicated algorithm for determining the Reference
Values associated to the String.
The Autobaseline algorithm determines the best batteries during the first string
test and generates the Impedance Reference and ACF for the String.
The baseline values are considered valid when the first string test is completed
(e.g. all batteries in the string being measured). Not completing the 1st string
test will prevent the user to see value and diagnosis associated to baseline
values (Sulfation/Dryout and % impedance).
Baselines can also be entered manually during the String Configuration
process or adjusted after test in IBMS.
Page 39
Quick Test
Quick Tests should be used in situation where keeping track of the Test Results is
not necessary (For example to screen and sort incoming batteries).
The EC-Series Analyzer comes with 3 standard Quick Tests accessible in the
Quick Tests section:
Impedance Meter Report the Impedance only.
Voltage and Impedance Meter Report Voltage and Impedance.
Voltage Meter Report the Voltage only.
Custom Quick Test can be created in the Test Configuration Template section and
will be listed in the Quick Tests section.

Overview
IBMS allows to create Test Configuration for your EC-Series Analyzer and to
review collected Test Results with the comfort of a computer.
IBMS operation rests on interacting with a Database Server (Nexus) which log
all configurations and test results.
The database can be accessed over the network which allows IBMS to be used
as an Enterprise solution (e.g. one single database shared with multiple IBMS
installation).
Page 54
Installation
IBMS installation is similar to any software installation on Windows.
At one point the software may ask you to select what to be installed:
IBMS
Nexus Server
Page 55
Database Configuration
Standalone / Enterprise version
At the first start, IBMS will request to indicate where the Database server is located.
You can enter the server information manually.
You can use the Locate New Server(s) to scan the network for computer running the
Database server.
In a standalone installation, you will select your computer while for an Enterprise
installation, you will have to select the Server Computer (either by manual entry or via
the Server scan function)
Page 56
Main Interface
IBMS main interface is a menu bar with two sections:
Battery Management To create Templates or Test Configurations, reviewing
Data or performing Transfer.
Utilities/Setup To setup IBMS (Server or Configuration) or performing backup
of the database.
The top bar indicates the server used by IBMS.

Nomenclature
Similar to the EC-Series Analyzer, the data are organized in four components. They are
by default name Company/Region/Site/String.
The testable parts are also named by default.
In the configuration section you can modify the naming convention.
You will also able to transfer this naming convention to the EC-Series Analyzer

EC-Series Analyzer firmware update is automated and only requires few mouse clicks.
Each Firmware update requires the unit to communicate with GEIs Activation Server (The USB cable
should be connected to the unit until the EC-Series Analyzer shutdown).

Functions and Operation
Every time an EC-Series Analyzer connects to IBMS, it also communicates
with the activation server and check if new features were activated.
Any firmware update requires communication with the Activation Server for
completion.
If necessary, it is possible to synchronize the EC-Series Analyzer manually
with the activation server.
