Description: Multiplication is the framework to all algebraic expression later on in

life that you learn. If multiplication isnt taught as soon as possible, students have
trouble later on in the classroom. So I will be teaching a multiplication lesson, it
depends on which grade is learning it now, when I was in elementary school, it was
fourth grade, now it might be second or third grade. Duration 22 minutes.
Introduction:
First I will show the students how multiplication is an also way of doing addition.
a. I will write three 4s on the board, and ask them to add those up
Thats right its 12.
b. Next I will introduce to them to the multiply sign, which means, the three 4s
add to 12, but there is a simpler way to write instead of putting the three 4s
down.
So I will write down for them 3 x 4 = 12
c. Next I will do the same method for five 2s
5 x 2 = 10
5 minutes
Direct Instruction:
Next they will get involved by being the numbers.
a. I will have eight people stand up, and have them arrange themselves in two
equal groups, letting them figure out how many is needed in each group.
There are two groups of four, 2 x 4, and how many total, 8. 2 x 4 =
8
2 minutes
Distribute Materials
I will be pairing the kids off into equal groups, each group with 12 paper circles.
a. I will be calling out two groups of four, or three groups of two, or three
groups of three. The students will then arrange the circles into groups as
instructed then answer back with the appropriate times table.
Another method I will use is the multiplication bingo
a. Each student will get a card with numbers on it that will equal to the times
table that I call out. The students will cover the appropriate answer on their
card, first student who gets a bingo will end the game, depending on the
time.
10 minutes

Group Work:
In their assigned groups, I will let them fill in a multiplication table, a small one of
course, then will get bigger as they learn more multiplication tables.

a.

Doing this exercise, they are learning to count by threes, fours, fives, and
etc. This will enable them to get tired of counting this way, and eventually
memorize them.
b. In their group, the next exercise will be for them to write down their
multiplication tables. Starting with the ones, 1x1=1, 1x2=2, 1x3=3, and so
on, all the way up to five.
5 minutes
Assessment:
At the end of class, I will ask a times table question, and they will answer with
the appropriate response.
Homework, will be to finish their multiplication tables that they are writing down
all the way up to ten.

Goals and objectives: The students will learn their times tables and to able to
understand that their important in the world and they are used every day with
people realizing it. Also in time, they will have them memorized.
Learning outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the up
to five times tables, and have the knowledge of being able to solve the others as
well. Also they would have learned how to work together to figure math problems in
the real world.
Methods and Instructional Strategies: I found these websites to be helpful. A lot of
the items that I will be using in my lesson, is paper for the circles, and the board.
Also I will be using a self-made bingo game, unless there is one available that I do
not know about. Also I will have quizzes printed out for them to take home and do
on the multiplication tables we did in class. The more they write them down and
say their times tables, the more easier it will be retained in their memory.

UDL- Differentiation According to Student Needs: The students that need extra time
to work on their multiplication table, I will give to the kids that need some extra
help. For some students, math comes easier to others then other kids. I know they
will probably not understand it right away, but the more they work on it, the easier
it will get.
