Lab Task # 1
Title: To find out voltages and currents in a given DC circuit.

Components: R, VDC, EGND, wires.


Circuit Diagram:

Procedure:
1. First go to get new part.
2. Type names of components and insert them.
3. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).
4. After placing components go to draw wires.
5. Connect all the components through wires.
6. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
7. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
8. Assign values to the components.
9. Save the circuit.
10. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
11. Again go to Analysis and click on Display results on schematic and tick Display current and Display
voltage for finding currents and voltages in the circuit respectively.

Lab Task 2:
Title:
To find out voltages and currents in a given AC circuits.

Components:
R, VAC, EGND, L, C and wires.

9. For inductor and capacitor use the following equations XL=2fL and XC= 2 fC respectively.
10. Save the circuit.
11. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
12. For measuring the AC voltages and currents we place IPRINT and VPRINT components in the circuit.
IPRINT is used for measuring current and VPRINT is used for measuring voltage respectively.
13. Result from the IPRINT and VPRINT can be checked at Examine Output at the very end of the doc
page.

Lab Task 3
Title:
To study voltage and current waveform of a purely resistive

circuit.

Components:
R, VSIN, and EGND (Note: For waveform VAC doesnt work)

Procedure:
1. First open PSpice software.
2. Then go to get new part.
3. Type names of components and insert them.
4. Select VSIN for voltage source because VAC does not work for studying waveforms.
5. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).
6. After placing components go to draw wires.
7. Connect all the components through wires.
8. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
9. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
10. Assign values to the components.
11. As its an AC circuit so we have to do AC sweep. For AC sweep go to Analysis, select Setup, a
window will open, click on AC sweep tab. Another window will open; enter the total points, start
frequency and end frequency respectively. In this experiment the total points=1, starting
frequency=1000 and end frequency=1000.
12. Now again go to AC sweep and open transient tab. Another window will open. Fill in the required
values. In this case print step=1us final time=5ms No-print delay=0 and step ceiling=1us.
13. Save the circuit.
14. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
15. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.
16. A list naming Add Traces will open. Select the I(R1) and V(R1:1) respectively as we want to see the
current and voltage graphs of a purely resistive circuit in this case.
17. A graph as shown in the figure5.2 is made.
18. We can study the waveform of voltage and current of a purely resistive circuit from this figure.

Lab Task 4:
Title:
To study voltage and current waveform of RLC circuit.

Components:
R, VSIN, L, C and EGND (Note:- For waveform VAC doesnt work)

Procedure:
1. First open PSpice software.
2. Then go to get new part.
3. Type names of components and insert them.
4. Select VSIN for voltage source because VAC does not work for studying waveforms.
5. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).

7. Connect all the components through wires.
8. To assign values to the components double click on the components.

13. Save the circuit.

15. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.
16. A list naming Add Traces will open. Select the required option to be traced. As we want to see the
current and voltage graphs of an RLC circuit in this case so we select I(C1) and V(C1:1) for capacitor and
I(L1) and V(L1:1) for inductor.
17. Graphs as shown in the figures 6.2 and 6.3 are obtained respectively.
18. We can study the waveform of voltage and current of an RLC circuit from these figures.

Lab Task 5:
Title:
To study resonance curve of an RLC Series Circuit

Components:
R, VAC, L, C and EGND

Procedure:
1. First open PSpice software.
2. Then go to get new part.
3. Type names of components and insert them.
4. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).

Lab Task 6:
Title:
To study resonance curve of an RLC Parallel Circuit.

Components:
R, IAC, L, C, Bubble and EGND.

Procedure:
1. First open PSpice software.
2. Then go to get new part.
3. Type names of components and insert them.
4. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).
5. After placing components go to draw wires.
6. Connect all the components through wires.
7. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
8. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
9. Assign values to the components.
10. As its an AC circuit so we have to do AC sweep. For AC sweep go to Analysis, select Setup, a
window will open, click on AC sweep tab. Another window will open; enter the total points, start
frequency and end frequency respectively. In this experiment the total points=10000, starting
frequency=10 and end frequency=1k.
11. Then go to Get new parts and select bubble and place it in circuit.
12. Save the circuit.
13. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
14. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.
15. A list naming Add Traces will open. Select the required option to be traced. In this case we select
V(node).
16. Again go to Trace, then click on cursor and select display cursor.
17. Then again go to Trace, click on cursor and select max.
18. A graph as shown in figure 8.2 is obtained.
19. We can study the resonance curve of an RLC parallel circuit from this figure.

Lab Task 9:
Title:
To study RL transient circuits.

Components:
VDC, Sw-tClose, R, L, and Wires.

Then go to get new part.
Type names of components and insert them.
Type sw-tclose and then click on place and close for inserting normally open switch. Dont make any
changes to switch.
5. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).
6. After placing components go to draw wires.
7. Connect all the components through wires.
8. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
9. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
10. Assign values to the components.
11. Then go to Analysis, click on setup, a window will open select Transient in that window and assign
the following values; Print step=1us, Final Time=3ms, No-Print delay=0, Step ceiling=1us. Tick
the Skip Initial Transient Solution option when the inductor is energized and untick it when the inductor
isnt energized.
12. Save the circuit.
13. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
14. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.
15. A list naming Add Traces will open. Select the required option to be traced. In this case we select I(L1).
16. A graph as shown in figure 9.2 is obtained.

Lab Task 10:


Title :
To study R-C transient circuit.

Components :
Resistor, capacitor , DC voltage source, ground and normally open switch.

Type names of components and insert them.
Type sw-tclose and then click on place and close for inserting normally open switch. Dont make any
changes to switch.

6. After placing components go to draw wires.
7. Connect all the components through wires.
8. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
9. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
10. Assign values to the components.
11. Then go to Analysis, click on setup, a window will open select Transient in that window and assign
the following values; Print step=2us, Final Time=30ms, No-Print delay=0, Step ceiling=2us. Tick
the Skip Initial Transient Solution option when the inductor is energized and untick it when the inductor
isnt energized.
12. Save the circuit.
13. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
14. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.

Lab Task 12:


Title:
To study a damped circuit.

Components:
R, L, C, Sw-topen, VDC and wires.

Procedure:
1. First open PSpice software.
2. Then go to get new part.
3. Type names of components and insert them.
4. For vertical orientation of any component press (Ctrl+R).
5. After placing components go to draw wires.
6. Connect all the components through wires.
7. To assign values to the components double click on the components.
8. Untick the two options Include non-changeable attributes and Include system- defined attributes.
9. Assign values to the components.
10. Then go to Analysis, click on setup and select transient. Assign values there, in this case Print
step=1ns, Final Time=3us, No-Print delay=0 and Step ceiling=1ns.
11. Save the circuit.
12. For simulation go to Analysis and click on Simulate.
13. A new window will open, in that go to trace in toolbar and select add trace.
14. A list naming Add Traces will open. Select the required option to be traced. In this case we select I(C1).
15. A graph as shown in figure 12.2 is obtained.

Title:
To study RLC transient circuit

Components:

Time switch (sw_tclose), resister(R), capacitor(C), DC battery (VDC), Inductor


(L) Ground (EGND) and connecting wires.
