A BILL to lessen the effects of criminal misdemeanor charges against minors
in the State of Ohio and provide punishment therefor. WHEREAS, an increasing number of minors are in jail in the State of Ohio. WHEREAS, going to jail for minor offenses reduces minors opportunities for the future. BE IT ENACTED BY THE 131st GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO. Section 1: Misdemeanors typically involves minor damage to property or minor injury to another person. Section 2: They usually have a maximum of 1 year in county jail or a criminal fine. Section 3: Upon conviction in a contempt Court of Law, the Judge shall sentence the perpetrator to one of the following punishments as the Court shall deem appropriate: a) Community service b) no more than 2 months in county jail c) $500 fine Section 4: This law shall take effect May 17, 2017.
