Study Guide Stations


Lesson Essential Question(s):
How do we use the information we have learned to answer the questions in the study
guide?
Standards:
6.1.4.B.4 - Places are jointly characterized by their physical and human properties.
6.1.4.B.6 - Regions form and change as a result of unique physical/ecological conditions,
economies, and cultures.
Lesson Objectives

Assessments

SWAT use background knowledge to


answer questions about the Northeast
region.

The students will visit various stations and


will fill in the answers to the study guide.

Materials:

Study guide
All handouts from the unit

Pre-lesson assignments and/or prior knowledge: The students have been learning about
the history, economy, climate, and resources of the northeast over the last two weeks.
They also planned a debate about the northeast.
Lesson Beginning: The teachers will begin the lesson with picking the fun fact for the
state of New York that will be featured on the bulletin board. Next, the teachers will read
to the students the letter from the student in that state and they will try to guess which
state it is.
Instructional Plan:

The teacher will have the paper passer hand out a study guide for the test

Before starting the rotation, students will independently fill out a K-W-L chart
that will allow students to reflect on what they need to focus on when going through
the stations

The students will be broken up into groups and will go through each station to fill
out a portion of the study guide with a teacher in order to review the material
o Station One: Page one of the study guide

Station Two: Page two


Station Three: Page three
Station Four: Page four

The students will rotate through the stations until the study guide is complete
Differentiation:

There will be a teacher at each station to assist the students with the study guide

There are various types of questions on the study guide

The students will be working in groups and can help each other
Classroom Management:

The teachers will use the clap method to get the students attention

There will be a teacher at each station to monitor the students

The students will have a specified time at each station

The teachers will be choosing the groups


Questions:

How can we use the knowledge that we learned to answer the questions on the
study guide?

What information do we need to look over again before the test?


Transitions:

The teachers will give a time warning before the students switch stations

The teacher will give the students 5 minutes to clean up their materials and we
can discuss the test

Closure: The teacher and students will gather as a class and the teacher will ask if the
students have any last minute questions before they take the test the next day. The teacher
will also have students reflect on the K-W-L chart to remember what they should focus
on when studying.
