IntakeProcess

Individuals who have been placed under arrest anywhere in Marion County, with the
exception of Pella, are first transported to the Marion County Jail in Knoxville. Upon
arrival,arresteesmustcompletethefollowingsteps:

Arrestees that are unable to post bail will appear before a Magistrate Judge within 24
hours (including Saturdays and Sundays). The Judge will inform the arrestee of the
charge(s)and,ifappropriate,willsetabondamount.

ReleaseProcess

BondasdeterminedbyaMagistrateJudge.

PreTrialReleaseIfunabletopostbail,aninmatemayapplythroughthe5th
JudicialDistrictDepartmentofCorrectionalServicesforpretrialrelease.

Visitation

Inmatesheld7daysorlongerareallowedfour20minutevisitsperweek.Visitinghours
areSundayandFridayEveningsfrom7:00pm9:00pm.Inmatesareinformedofvisiting
daysandhoursandareresponsibleforrelayingtheinformationtothosewhowishtovisit
them.

VisitationRules:

All visits are done via video/audio connection. Contact visitation will not be
allowed.

All visitors shall first be authorized by the Jail Administrator or his designee
beforeavisitisallowed.

Nooneundertheageof14isallowedtovisitinmates.Aminorvisitorfromthe
ageof14to17mustbeason,daughter,stepson,stepdaughter,brother,sister
orgrandchildandmust beaccompaniedbyaparentorlegalguardian.Legal
proofoftherelationshipmayberequired.

Government issued photo identifications, such as a drivers license or state

issued ID card, must be presented by each visitor. Visitors who do not have
properidentificationwillnotbepermittedtovisit.

AnyoneheldintheMarionCountyJailwithintheprevious6monthswillnotbe
permittedtovisit.

Allvisitorsbroughtintothevisitationareashallbesubjecttosearch,including
butnotlimitedtohandbags,sacksandparcels.

Visitors must be appropriately dressed. Shoes, shirts and appropriate

underclothingmustbeworn.Visitorswearingsuggestiveclothingwillnotbe
permittedtovisit.

Properbehaviorofallvisitorsisrequired.Visitationwillbedeniedifthevisitor
isdeterminedtobeundertheinfluenceofalcoholordrugs.

TheJailAdministrator,orhisdesignee,maydenyanyvisitorsuspendallvisits
if, in his opinion, thereis reasonable suspicion that the security of an inmate
and/orthesecurityofthefacilityisinjeopardy.

Visitorsmaynotgiveanythingortakeanythingfromaninmate.

AllitemsallowedmustbeleftwiththeDetentionOfficeronduty.Anyitemsleftnoton
the below list or not directly given to the Detention Officer will be discarded. Allowed

InmateMail

IncomingmailwillbedeliveredtoinmatesMondaythroughFriday.

Allincomingmailisopenedandsearchedforcontraband.

Privileged mail sent by legal representatives will only be opened in the

presenceoftheaddressedinmate.

Allmoneyreceivedthroughthemailwillbepostedtotheaddressedinmates
account.Donotsendcashorpersonalchecks.

Inmatesmayreceiveupto10pictures(Nolargerthan3x5andnoPolaroids)

Unauthorizeditemsmailedtoaninmatewillbeplacedinthepropertyroomor
disposedofasappropriate.Inmateswillreceiveitemsnotdisposedofatthe
timeoftheirrelease.

Onceaninmatereceiveshisorherhousingassignment,heorshecancontactfamilyand

Commissary

A commissary account is established for each inmate upon arrival. All monies applied
towardthismaybeusedforcandy,paper,stampedenvelopes,shampoo,deodorant,etc.
Commissaryitemsnotusedaretakenwiththeinmateupontheirtransferorrelease.Any
commissarybalancewillberefundedtotheinmateupontheirtransferorrelease.
