Instructions
You may attempt any question, regardless of your division.
For questions 2, 4, 5 and 6, each question is worth 5 marks; a correct answer with
no working or explanation will earn only one of these marks. An incorrect answer
with working which may lead to a full solution may earn more than one mark.
No working is required for questions 1 and 3; a correct answer will earn 3 marks,
and an incorrect answer will earn 0 marks.

Junior division
1. I want to make a bracelet with 4 beads, each a different colour. How many different
patterns can I have for my bracelet?
Note: all the bracelets below are considered the same bracelet

2. Tamati and Hemi are playing a game. The rules are the following:
There are 25 lollies on a table.
Each player can take 1, 2, or 3 lollies from the table.
The player who clears the table on his turn wins.
Who has the winning strategy, and why?

Intermediate division
3. A regular hexagon ABCDEF has area 1. What is the area of kite ACDE?

4. What is the last digit of the value 72014 ?

Senior division
5. a654b is a five-digit number which is a multiple of 72. Calculate 10a + b.
Note: a654b does not mean a 6 5 4 b.
6. Two players take turns playing a game on a 3 3 square table.

In each turn, the player writes a whole number from 1 to 9 in one empty square
of the table, but each number can be used only once. At the end of the game, if
the sum of numbers in one of the rows or in one of the columns is equal to 14, the
first player wins. Otherwise, the second player wins. Does the first player have a
winning strategy?
