Submission Deadline:
29th December 2016
1. Using the method of joints, determine the force in each member of the truss shown. State
whether each member is in tension or compression.
Ans: FAD=260 lb C, FDC=125 lb T, FBE=832 lb C
FCE=400 lb T, FAC=400 lb T, FBC=125 lb T, FAB=420 lb C
2. A Warren bridge truss is loaded as shown. Determine the force in members CE, DE, and DF.
Ans: FCE=8000 lb T, FDE=2600 lb T, FDF=9000 lb C
3. Determine the force in members DF, EF, and EG of the truss shown.
4. Determine the components of the reactions at A and E if a 750-N force directed vertically
downward is applied at B
ANS: AX=450 N
AY=525N
, EX=450N
, EY= 225N
5. A train starts from rest at station A and accelerates at 0.5 m/s2 for 60 s. Afterwards it travels
with a constant velocity for 15 min. It then decelerates at 1 m/s2 until it is brought to rest at
station B. Determine the distance between the stations. Ans: 28 350 m
6. The position of a particle on a straight line is given by S=(t3-9t2+15t) ft where t is in seconds.
Determine the position of the particle when t=6s and the total distance it travels during the first
6-s time interval. Ans : 46 ft
7. A sphere is fired downwards into a medium with an initial speed of 27 m/s. If it experiences a
deceleration of a=(-6t) m/s2 where t is in seconds, determine the distance traveled before it stops.
Ans: 54m
8. A golf ball is struck with a velocity of 80 ft/s as shown.
Determine the distance d to where it will land and the total
flight time . ans: d = 166 ft, t=3.568s
9. It is observed that the time for the ball to strike the ground at B is 2.5 s. Determine the speed
and angle at which the ball was thrown. Ans: VA= 23.2 m/s A=30.5o
1.2m
50 m
