SKIN

Skin is the largest organ of the body, accounting about 15% of the total adult body
weight. Skin is the interface between body and environment. There are 3 major
compartments of the skin. Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis. Epidermis is
outermost structure, its multilayer, one part of the epidermis layer is stratum
corneum, which form the epidermal permeability barrier that prevent the loss of
water and electrolytes.
SKIN FUNCTION

Thermal control regulates body temperature

Heat loss: sweat to cool the skin

Heat retention: prevents blood to rush into capillary beds

Waterproofing contains lipids to prevent drying out

Excretion of waste urea and uric acid secreted in sweat

Makes vitamin D modifies cholesterol molecules in skin and converts it to


vitamin D

MOISTURIZER

Moisturizer is cosmetic Preparation as cream, lotion or gel. Moisturizers can be used


preventatively or to help restore the stratum corneum to its more normal function.

The thin oily layer on the skin surface can protect it from exposure to

ALOE VERA
The name Aloe vera derives from the Arabic word Alloeh meaning shining bitter
substance, while

vera in Latin means true.
