Leitura o que acontece quando as pessoas


olham um texto e atribuem significado aos
smbolos escritos naquele texto
(AEBERSOLD; FIELD, 1977, p. 15).

Leitura o processo de construo


de significado atravs da interao
dinmica entre o conhecimento
existente do leitor; a informao sugerida pela linguagem
escrita; e o contexto da situao da leitura
(PEARSON; RAPHAEL, 1993, p. 284).

reading
an
individual constructs
meaning through a
transaction
with
written text that has
been
created
by
symbols
that
represent language.
The
transaction
involves the readers
acting on or

interpreting the text


and the interpretation
is influenced by the
readers
past
experiences, language
background,
and
cultural framework, as
well as the readers
purpose for reading
(HUDELSON, 1994 apud
EDIGER,2001, p. 154).

Buscar as palavras de contedo e verificar as informaes que esto
em seu entorno.

Leitura com o objetivo de encontrar algumas
informaes especficas no texto.
Busca-se as palavras-chave do texto.
L-se as informaes ao redor
dessas palavras.
Procura-se responder questes
sobre o texto.

SCANNING
(Extraindo informaes especficas)
O scanning uma prtica rotineira nas nossas vidas.
Alguns exemplos tpicos do scanning so:
o uso do dicionrio para obter informaes sobre o
significado de uma palavra;
a busca de um nmero na lista telefnica;
a utilizao de um ndice de um livro ou revista,
para encontrar um artigo ou captulo de interesse.
Esta tcnica no exige leitura completa nem detalhada
do texto.

Cognatas o que so?


Palavras de origem grega ou latina bem
parecidas com as do portugus. Exemplos:
different - implement - literature
education - consequence poem
Conscience - conjunction

Existem trs tipos de Cognatas
Idnticas. Ex.: cinema, social, hotel
Semelhantes. Ex.: telephone, violent
Distantes. Ex.: activity, computer

Cognatas como testar!


Na primeira leitura, d o valor ao termo como
cognato verdadeiro. Avalie o contexto e verifique
se o valor dado produz coeso e compreenso.

FALSE COGNATES
Os falsos cognatos, por sua vez, apresentam
significados distintos entre os idiomas.
EXEMPLOS:
Actually (na verdade) - Pretend ( fingir )
Pull (Puxar) Push ( Empurrar)
Eventually - ( finalmente)

Contrast:

His story is true. However, I wouldnt trust him.

Reason:
He didnt go out because he was very busy.
As he couldnt find a job, he enrolled on a web-design course.
Since we had spent all our money, we couldnt even buy a little
souvenir.
Result / Consequence:
We woke up late, so we missed our bus.
Hes broken his leg, therefore he wont be able to play in the next
match.

Purpose:
Hes qualifying to become an accountant.
He has taken a course in business administration in order to
gain career advancement.
Time:
When I was on holiday, I used to get up late.
Come whenever you like.

ELEMENTOS DE REFERNCIA E
SUBSTITUIO
Um texto formado por vrios pargrafos que se
relacionam entre si. Logo, faz-se necessrio o uso
de palavras chamadas referenciais, a fim de evitar
a sobrecarga de repeties desnecessrias em um
texto.
H dois tipos de referncia:
A referncia lexical;
A referncia gramatical.

REFERNCIA LEXICAL

Mary sometimes talks to me about her husband.


Harry, she says, is a strong and hardworking
man, his only problem is that he is the most selfish
person she has ever met.

REFERNCIA GRAMATICAL

Deserts are very dry regions. They have very little


rainfall. Few plants live there. Some specialized
animals do. Some deserts have a surface of sand.
The sand often forms dunes. These are created by
the wind. Others have stones or rocks.

Dicionrio
Esse deve ser o ltimo recurso a ser utilizado.
Alm de no oferecer a carga semntica da
palavra ou expresso, torna a leitura muito
lenta, provocando desnimo no leitor e
interrompe a compreenso do texto.

USO DO DICIONRIO
O dicionrio geralmente oferece recursos para facilitar o
seu manuseio, como lista de smbolos fonticos (para
sabermos como pronunciar) diviso silbica (que
diferente
do
portugus),
abreviaturas
(para
entendermos a explicao das palavras), a classe
gramatical da palavra, exemplos usando a palavra etc.

Observe o exemplo abaixo retirado do dicionrio Oxford Escolar


para Estudantes Brasileiros de Ingls:
Ac.count / kaunt/ s 1. (Fin, com) conta: checking account
conta corrente. 2. fatura 3. accounts [pl] contabilidade 4. Relato,
descrio vi ~ (to sb) for sth prestar contas (a algum) de algo.
O que significa:
- Os smbolos entre barras / / ?
- O til? ~
- O ponto? Ac.count.
- As letras s e vi?
- O smbolo ?
- A informao entre colchetes [ ] ?
