TECHNIQUES AND MANAGEMENT FOR STROKE AND SPINAL CORD

INJURIES

Stroke and Spinal cord injuries are the top cases that most Physical
Therapists around the globe are facing today and Neurodevelopmental
Treatment or NDT is the uprising approach affiliated for such cases. For the
Physical students like us, seminar like this is indeed helpful in our
educational journey. Thus, this lecture-seminar came up.

The lecture-seminar which was conducted last September 21, 2016 at

MCNP
AVR-2 Alimanao Hills, Pena Blanca, Cagayan is entitled Lectureseminar on neurodevelopmental techniques and management for stroke and
spinal cord injuries. Our speaker is the brilliant Mr. Elmer Buguina, an MCNP
alumnus and the Chief Physical Therapist of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, a
preeminent hospital in Abu Dhabi. The speaker touched the lives of the
students both extrinsically and extrinsically making the learning process
interesting and effective.

With the lecture proper, the speaker discussed the embodiment of the
Neurodevelopmental Treatment and how to apply it in the clinical setting. It
is clearly exhibited in the slide shows the he prepared and to the treatment
demonstrations done during the seminar. Furthermore, he also gave to the
learners a view of the clinical setting in Abu Dhabi. The Speaker said that the
treatment there is more focused on the patients Activities of Daily Living
(ADLs) and is very aggressive in the sense that immediate treatment is given
to the patient rather than nursing the patient in the bed for quite some time.
Hence, the way of treatment is more encouraging and sanguine.

Subjectively, the speaker also gave sort of pointers to empower the

students and to encourage them to strive harder in their studies. He shared
his struggles when he was still a student and how did he handled and
overcame it. What amazed the students even more is that despite of all
these predicaments he still managed to graduate with flying colors. Also,
amidst of the slides he presented are his pictures taken in the picturesque
scenes he travelled on across the world that was very effective in lightening
up the mood and inspiring the students to follow his greatness in the future.

To sum it up, Mr. Buguinas skillfulness and way of conversing is

certainly remarkable which was riveted the students interests till the end of
the lecture. The lecture-seminar taught the students lot of things which they
can use especially in the clinical setting given the short time duration of the
lecture.
